If your holiday LBD needs a little bit of extra sparkle, consider trying out haute jewelry’s new obsession: colored diamonds. In the past, diamonds were prized for their pure, sparkling clarity and colorless transparency, but lately, the world has been enamored with diamonds in various colors. And expanding on the world’s new taste for technicolor gems, Newport Beach-based Black, Starr & Frost has added two new colored diamond designs to their offerings: a Stunning 2.06 carat blue diamond ring and a set of 14.39 carat yellow diamond earrings.

This year, colored diamonds have been shattering world records at the world’s finest auction houses. In Geneva, Sotheby’s sold a Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond for $16.3 million and the very next day, Christie’s sold the world’s largest Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond, weighing in at 13.22 carats, for almost $23.8 million. In Hong Kong, Sotheby’s Hong Kong sold an 8.41-carat Fancy Vivid Purple-Pink diamond for $17.7 million.

“Fancy colored diamonds – primarily yellow, pink and blue – have always been highly prized and rare,” said Alfredo J. Molina, chairman of Black, Starr & Frost. “Yet we’ve seen demand for them soar over the past three years as more and more high net worth individuals recognize both the distinct beauty and value of this new asset class.”

Black, Starr & Frost is bringing the trend to its loyal customers. The brand is the nation’s oldest continuously operating jeweler and while some storied lines might just rest on their laurels, Black, Starr & Frost is bringing two new designs featuring fancy colored diamonds to its Newport Beach showroom. Shown by appointment only, the pieces include a rare pear-shaped Fancy Intense Blue Diamond set in a ring flanked by two Argyle Pink Diamonds and a pair of pear-shaped Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond drop earrings.

To get a peek at this pair of one-of-a-kind colored diamond creations (and to find out just how much they cost), set up a private appointment with Michael Cavallaro at Black, Starr & Frost by calling 949-673-1771.
