Cambridge Satchel Company Debuts Chris Benz Collaboration

Last year, the Fashion Trends Daily team spotted so many Cambridge Satchels during Fashion Week that we were almost sure that the company was a sponsor of the event. Everyone from editors and bloggers to Brad Goreski and fashion-hungry folk had one in their mitts. If they weren’t neon, they were the brand’s classic brown and black colorway.

This season, the Cambridge Satchel Company launched its very first collaboration with an American designer: Chris Benz. His new collection was full of pastel colors and airy fabrics, setting the perfect backdrop for the Cambridge Satchel’s boxy shape and its new, crisp white pocket, a signature of this collaboration.

Though there is already an array of colors, leather treatments and sizes on the Cambridge Satchel Company site, the new collection offers myriad new colors and a smaller, more compact shape. In addition, the new styles have magnetic closures, which makes getting into the bags a snap, literally.

“We are so excited to be working with Chris Benz for our first US design collaboration,” said Julie Deane, the founder of the Cambridge Satchel Company. “With his signature colors, textures and prints, he is a perfect partner for the Cambridge Satchel Company.”

The Chris Benz collection, which the Cambridge Satchel Company is calling the Virginia Collection, will be offered in nine limited-edition colors, including lilac, lemon, rose, duck egg and brown. The front pocket on all of them will be white and each bag comes with a detachable long strap.

“The Chris Benz girl is fun, flirty and fashionable and is sure to love this new collection of classics with a new twist,” said Deane.

In the past, the Cambridge Satchel Company has worked with brands such as Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, Basso and Brooke and Christopher Shannon, but the Virginia Collection is the first time that Deane has worked with an American designer and officially showed at Fashion Week. If last year’s ubiquity is any indication of how popular these satchels are, we’ll have our cameras ready for next year. The street style peacocks are sure to be out preening with these must-have bags.
