For months, shoppers at South Coast Plaza have been waiting for the debut of the newly remodeled Louis Vuitton store. Thankfully, monogram devotees have a few other spots at the Orange County shopping center to get their fix, but now, the Monet-clad wall has come down and anyone looking to snag a bit of French savoir-faire can shop ’till they drop at the light-drenched new store.

Designed by Peter Marino, who works with sister label Fendi as well as fellow luxe French label Chanel, the remodeled Louis Vuitton shop is the largest single-store location in the Americas. The new light comes courtesy of skylights, which are meant to bring Southern California’s signature—that’d be sunshine—right into the shop. It’s the perfect way to showcase the artistry and craftsmanship behind each and every Vuitton piece.

The full breadth of the brand is on display, with ready-to-wear, watches, jewelry, and shoes rubbing shoulders with the bags and small leather goods that the brand’s known for. Marino worked to integrate modern touches to offset the tradition and heritage of Vuitton travel trunks and that famed brown monogram. Shelves are made of high-tech carbon fiber and there’s modern art sprinkled throughout the store. Home goods and fragrance are on display, as well.

Special additions to the store include a full-time in-house artist who is on hand to paint designs and decals onto hard-sided pieces, furthering the tradition of travel and voyage that Vuitton prides itself on. For a real glimpse at what goes into a Vuitton bag, however, guests can spy artisans at work creating new pieces and restoring vintage ones. It’s the very first in-store atelier from the brand, so die-hard fans should make a pilgrimage just to see what goes into the line’s famed bags.

Exclusives to the store include special-edition releases of select ready-to-wear pieces designed by Nicolas Ghesquière for both men and women as well as a leopard-print Petite Malle handbag and crocodile-skin Christopher backpack. Shoppers will be able to get the Diamond Blossom XL medallion before anyone else, too, with its arrival at South Coast Plaza preceding wide release in October.

The new Louis Vuitton boutique joins South Coast Plaza’s trio of new openings. Givenchy and Alexander McQueen are also open at the center, adding a few new names to already star-studded lineup in Costa Mesa.

Louis Vuitton is located at 3333 Bristol Street, at South Coast Plaza. For more information, visit www.louisvuitton.com.
