Narciso Rodriguez, Rodarte and Even Jonathan Adler Expand into Accessories

It seems these days that everyone want to be a lifestyle brand. We’re seeing it in both clothing and home designers who are expanding their wares and swinging both way to include everything from clothes and accessories to home goods, pet items and more!  During New York Fashion Week’s Fall 2012 presentations and runway shows, designers such as  Narciso Rodriguez and Rodarte added shoes and bags to their already stellar lineups. And in a surprise twist, everyone’s favorite anti-depressant home goods purveyor Jonathan Adler is now putting clutches and handbags in his stores alongside his famed pottery and pillows.

Yes, designer Narciso Rodriguez has shown purses and shoes before at his runway shows (and covetable ones, at that), but the truth is that they’ve never gone into production — until now.

To accompany his new collection, his fall accessories line will include seven shoe styles and eight handbags, including top-handle satchels, larger duffles and more. Each bag reflects his love of multi-media, mixing together different leathers and textures like suede, lizard, ostrich, and alligator (sometimes all on the same bag). Available in combinations of black and coral or lilac and in solid leathers, none scream “it,” but they all exude a quiet luxury, just like the sinuous, sexy clothes Rodriguez sends down the runway.

The sisters Rodarte have collaborated with the biggest names in fashion for their shoes — Louboutin, Kirkwood and more — so when they announced that they’d be going to retail with their new designs, the fashion world let out a collective swoon.

Their previous shoe offerings (including a collab with uber-hip boutique Opening Ceremony) were hard to come by, but with a wider distribution now, their eponymous shoe collection will be more attainable. Priced from $995 and topping off at $1,500, each shoe has unique details such as plexiglass heels filled with colored sand or a mix of leather, canvas and wood tinged with Victorian and Australian Aboriginal details.

After its initial launch in high-end department stores such as Barneys New York and Neiman Marcus (just head to wherever you go to pick up your Rodarte sweaters and Van Gough-painted party dresses), Iris, the distributor and manufacturer of the shoes, plans on rolling the line out to more doors as well as adding more lower-priced options.

We doubt that they’ll be as ubiquitous as Louboutins or even Kirkwoods with their signature platforms, but we’re happy to make room for these one-of-a-kind creations in our closets and expect that each and every pair will be snapped by every street-style photog come Fashion Week this fall.

Not satisfied with taking over your bedroom, living room, kitchen, bookshelves and even your closetJonathan Adler is adding a line of playful handbags to his namesake stores for the upcoming season.

Spring’s collection includes yacht-ready canvas totes with rope handles, smaller bags and clutches in jute with leather accents (like the zippered clutches pictured below left). Not ready to pay four figures for Rodarte booties or a Narcisco satchel? No sweat. Adler’s line is much more budget friendly. Clutches retail for just $38 and for fall, a cross-stitched leather handle bag (pictured above right) comes with a palatable price tag of $495.

Even less expensive (and perfect for gifting, like all of Adler’s offerings) are PVC card holders and zippered pouches with sailboats, scooters and other iconic Adler imagery. While they’ll have a more limited availability at Adler’s own stores, picking up a few pieces of pottery is even more fun when you can grab a clutch or tote to go with them.
