Heading up PCH is a rite of passage for Californians. Heading south from San Francisco, the journey includes a redwood-lined road and stops in Santa Cruz and Monterey (and it’s famed 17 mile drive). If you’re heading north from Southern California, you’ve got Santa Barbara, plenty of sandy beaches and crashing waves as you make your way up to the grand estate. William Randolph Hearst, who developed the estate with architect Julia Morgan, created an iconic building that blended styles and details from around the world, and that castle is where California-based optical brand Oliver Peoples set their new campaign, starring none other that Hearst heiress, socialite, editor and model Amanda Hearst.
“Amanda captures the classic beauty and California lifestyle that is in our roots,” said Oliver Peoples’ Larry Leight. “The rich history of California and its creative culture of art and entertainment continue to inspire the 2014 collection.”
Spread out over 127 acres, Hearst Castle includes gardens, two pools and countless rooms filled with antiques and art, which inspired the shapes and materials of the new collection from Oliver Peoples. The newest optical and sun collection blends classic Old Hollywood shapes with modern materials and the high-tech lenses that keep fans of the brand coming back. It’s the perfect blend of nerdy and fashion forward that we’ve come to expect from Oliver Peoples, who has paired with names such as Zooey Deschanel and Isabel Marant in the past.
“I wanted to highlight the history my family has in California,” Hearst said. “To be able to walk through the rooms barefoot, dip my feet in the pools, touch the furniture…all that was incredibly special to me. It was nice to pretend that I lived there for the day.”
In addition to the lookbook photos, Hearst also appears in a video for the collection directed by Wyatt Troll, which gives all of us (Californian or not) a peek inside Hearst Castle along with a look at the new collection of optical and sun frames. Check it out below:
