It takes two to tango, goes the saying. But in the case of Pantone, the color consulting company that works with fashion designers, graphic artists and interior and industrial designers, it takes a veritable fashion village to help set the tone for seasonal hues. If you recall, last year was the year of honeysuckle, a rosy pink. For 2012, they’ve declared Tangerine Tango the haute hue to express their prediction that 2012 would be a year of revival, drama and seduction. We are already a fan of this fiery orange (if you want to get technical, it’s Pantone 17-1463) that is already popping up for spring. Check out some of our favorite picks in Pantone 17-1463 that we can’t wait to tango with this spring!
Reed Krakoff Soft Boxer 1 Textured-Leather Tote ($1,290)
Reed Krakoff’s eponymous line started with a few not-so-flattering reviews and a rocky start on the runway, but we’ve loved the evolution of the line. And his Soft Boxer 1 handbag (in a color he calls papaya) is the perfect embodiment of Tangerine Tango’s ethos. Optimistic, utilitarian and luxe without as much as a single monogram or logo. Just try not to get noticed in this one. We dare you.
Pantone for Sephora Makeup Collection
For the first time ever, Pantone is partnering with a cosmetics company to create their own palettes. Of course, we wouldn’t expect them to pair with anyone else but mega-store Sephora, who will debut the collaboration later this year. The collection contains lipsticks, eye makeup and face powders, all in Tangerine Tango. If you’re too timid to slap orange on your face or pout, fear not. A touch here and there will leave you with a fresh glow, not a Jersey Shore tan. We can bet that if this collab does well, there will be many more Sephora Pantone collections to come.
Isharya Swirl 18-Karat Gold-Plated Glass Ring ($95)
For the less daring, we’d suggest this little bauble from celeb-fave Isharya (spot these on Cameron Diaz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Ginnifer Goodwin, Sofia Vergara, and just about everyone else). While it makes a statement, it’s not screaming 2012 like Reed Krakoff’s option. But it does continue the cocktail ring trend we’ve seen for the past few seasons — years, really — and being that our editor, Michelle, is prone to talking with her hands, we’d love a little gem gesticulation.
Vionnet One-shoulder Stretch-Crepe Dress ($2,430)
And for the truly daring, we say go all out in this sexy Vionnet dress. With a careless shoulder-baring cut, accents of marigold and black and a tango-ready silhouette, this is the very essence of Tangerine Tango. Energetic, dynamic and as sexy as it gets!
