Diane Kruger continued her quiet domination of the red carpet with an appearance at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Hollywood Costume opening in a lacy Elie Saab LBD. And while she upped the fashion ante with the over-the-shoulder blazer drape (a fashion editor move that’s a street style staple these days), what really caught our attention was her choice of footwear. Sure, any other red carpet vet would have gone safe with a black pump (pretty but predictable) or a nude heel (yawn), but being the fashion maverick that she is Kruger opted to add a pop of print with a pair of eye-catching Sophia Webster sandals.
Kruger’s Sophia Webster sandals weren’t just unexpected, they were the perfect pair of shoes to add a little bit of edge to her sweet Saab cocktail dress. And because she kept everything north of her ankles in black (kudos on the texture and sheer panels), all of the attention was down on her heels. It’s a trick you can use for yourself if you’ve got a pair of loud patterned shoes you just don’t know what to pair with or you’ve got a basic black outfit that needs that extra something to get it away from basic LBD territory.
Not only is the Alejandra G Wanda Sandal ($361) easier on your wallet than Kruger’s Sophia Webster sandals, they’re not as towering, so they’ll be just a little bit easier to walk in. The shoes have similar cage bootie styling and of course, both feature an eye-catching optic print that’s sure to stand out against anything you pair them with. The Wanda sandal features printed pony fur, adding great texture, as well as hints of red elastic (the Sophia Webster bootie aded a dash of red in at the heel, too). With basic black — or just about anything else in your wardrobe — these booties are sure to take you to new fashion heights.
