Outfit Inspiration: Jaime King’s Rag & Bone Varsity Sweater

For a duo of Brit lads, the boys of Rag & Bone sure do know how dress the Hollywood set. The brand is a favorite for guys and girls alike, but the designs really shine when starlets (along with models, socialites and street style superstars) get snapped wearing the goods in their everyday lives. And that’s exactly where the brand belongs, since you’d be hard pressed to find a Rag & Bone gown or even a cocktail dress for after hours.

Certain items, such as the brand’s cult-favorite jeans, signature Newbury bootie and Pilot Bag have become synonymous with off-duty chic, but every season, the designers seem to add one or two more pieces that are sure to become instant classics. Case in point: actress Jaime King looking like a street style superstar wearing the brand’s Talia varsity sweater.

The model-turned-actress combined the menswear-inspired, sporty jacket with Isabel Marant wedge sneakers (they live on!) and a classic black satchel. Add classic, ladylike shades and she’s wearing an simple combo that works for celebs and real people alike. Au courant and totally comfortable, it’s an easy look that anyone can wear.

Forever21 Mirrored Stripes Sweater

Forever21 Mirrored Stripes Sweater

While it’s not an identical sweater, the Forever21 Mirrored Stripes Sweater ($14.80) does have the same sporty, varsity feel that King’s Rag & Bone sweater does without taking much out of your clothing budget. It’s got the same black-and-white color scheme, although it’s in a sweatshirt instead of a ribbed knit. If you are planning on putting a look like this into your regular rotation, we might say that a splurge is in order, but if you’re interested in the general feel and inspiration of Rag & Bone’s Talia sweater, then this loose, casual sweater — complete with super-flattering panels — should tide you over while you save your pennies for the item you do splurge on this season.

Available at Forever21.

1. Jaime King’s got a great nameplate necklace, but for those of us who didn’t jump on the Carrie necklace bandwagon back in the day, the Crislu Cascade Single Necklace ($128) is a great alternative.

2. Old school, round-lensed glasses were a passing trend, but leave the oversized Gaga inspired frames to the paparazzi-fiends and instead, go classic with the Elizabeth and James Ainsworth Round Polarized Sunglasses ($190).

3. A classic black satchel is something you’ll wear with anything and everything in your closet. If you’re looking for the perfect day bag, the Marc by Marc Jacobs Q Leather Satchel ($478) is the perfect medium size, has plenty of room for everything you need to tote with you and looks great with preppy outfits and sporty ones alike.

4. King’s proved that the Marant wedge is still going strong — and retailers such as Barneys and Net-a-Porter agree — so get a pair of Ash Bowie Wedge Sneaker ($195) and wear them proudly, everyone judging you is probably just jealous.

5. If you’re on the hunt for the perfect skinny-but-not-too-skinny jeans, the Madewell Skinny Skinny Zip Jeans in Sky Wash ($135) are the perfect combo of jeans and leggings without the faux pockets and strange over-stretch that you might find elsewhere. Try on pair and you’ll be a convert, we swear. Good thing the brand offers the Skinny Skinny cut in a myriad of must-own washes.
