Outfit Inspiration: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Boho Animal Print Dress

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley made a splash this summer when she lent her famous good looks to Cassandra Huysentruyt Grey’s Violet Files, the online magazine-cum makeup inspiration that’s a huge part of Violet Grey’s e-shop. Rosie kept Grey (and a slew of other celebs, including Kim Kardashian) company at the party that celebrated the store’s latest Artist in Residence, Donald Robertson. Huntington-Whitley stunned in a bohemian frock, trading in her usual signature sex appeal for something a little more relaxed. But of course, the look brought in some of Rosie’s usual edge thanks to the mix of flowing fabrics and heavy hitting (and fall-ready!) boots.

When it comes to after-dark dressing, you probably have a pair of go-to pumps or platforms, but Rosie Huntington-Whiteley shows that sometimes, the unexpected can be fun and fabulous. He knee-high lace-up boots give her outfit a little bit more of a relaxed feel and thanks to the playful pattern of her dress and the flowing fabric, it doesn’t look too dressy or like something that’s coming straight from the office (if Rosie sat in a cubicle, that is). We’re stealing Rosie’s style tips and giving you a few pointers on just how you can achieve that elusive dressy/casual balance that’s a signature of off-duty models.

While you don’t want to arrive at an event or cocktail party looking like you’ve just come from work, the problem is that you actually might have to head to an event right from work. The perfect work/play balance comes down to some clever styling tips. First, get a great dress such as the Velvet by Graham & Spencer Snow Leopard Jacquard Dress ($169), which takes a few fashion cues from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s flirty frock.

At work, you might wear flats or basic pumps, but if you’re headed out for drinks after you clock out, ditch the blazer and sensible shoes at your office and opt for some boots a la Rosie. If you’ve left your hair in a messy bun all day, you can let loose and rock some loose waves. Slick on your favorite lipstick and you’re set for a night out without looking like you’ve just broken free of a corporate dress code.

Available at Nordstrom.

For a fresh take on after-dark dressing, Rosie left her pumps and platforms at home, opting for statement-making boots instead. Here are a few of our favorite boots, which can give your frocks the same sort of laissez-fair cool as Rosie’s.
