The Statement Ring Gets Even Louder: Bling Goes Big

We love a big, bold cocktail ring. But like all good things, the cocktail ring’s domination of the jewelry world might just be coming to an end. Jewelers are stepping out of the box when it comes to finger adornment and the days of singular gems and candy-like baubles are giving way to more elaborate jewels that span entire fingers or traverse over other knuckles. Big bold looks with colorful gems are great for playful girls while intricate weaving and delicate latticework may be a better choice for the more ladylike. We’ve gathered up something for everyone without a single solitaire in sight. So ditch that big jewel sitting on your digits for a more forward-leaning finger adornment.

Repossi is a jewelry brand that’s gaining notoriety for its unique finishes and edgy designs. The Maure ring ($7,920), which showcases both, combines the brand’s signature Moroccan-inspired motifs with a unique black gold finish. And while some women might gravitate towards the label’s more dainty and traditional pieces, we were instantly drawn to this finger-spanning ring because of its big but still feminine look. As you wear the ring, the black finish will start to wear off, giving your ring a one-of-a-kind faded look with each wear. For the traditionalist, the piece is also available in yellow gold, which is much more glam than this goth version.

Rachel Roy is known for her penchant for ring and bracelet stacking, so we were happy to see that her collaboration with Deepak Chopra included her signature hand chains ($245 each), which combine a ring and a bracelet with a dainty ring. Available in rose gold, yellow gold and more, each chain is adorned with a tiny charm inspired by the teachings of Chopra’s work. Delicate stars and ohm symbols are available in the hand chain, but for bolder looks, a sword charm comes on the body chain (a waist chain combined with a necklace). Roy wears several hand chains simultaneously, along with a myriad of rings, so don’t be shy about combining these big pieces with your everyday jewelry.

Ileana Makri is a jewelry designer from Greece, so it’s no surprise that her collections draw from her heritage and the mythology of her native country. The snake isn’t unique to Makri, especially with designers such as Roberto Cavalli using the serpent in just about every one of his collections, but what is unique is the way her serpentine Python ring ($4,195) slithers from one finger to the next. The delicate, dainty ring glitters with diamonds and tsavorite, a type of green garnet. Even the girliest girl can integrate a touch of subversive snaking into her jewelry box with this subtle nod to the serpent.

Shorouk is another under-the-radar designer that’s about to hit it big. In her native France she’s already released several lines of jewelry (at different price points) as well as accessories such as clutches and belts. Her Mila ring ($805) is three rings in one, connected by a pair of delicate chains. The triple-decker bauble combines rhinestones with more playful neon and colored stones in an artful arrangement that spans your entire finger. Even the simplest outfits will get a punch of high style with the addition of this statement ring — or rings — and it’s a piece that’ll garner attention from everyone who catches a glimpse of your hand.
