Nothing is more frustrating than having to tailor something, but it’s even more frustrating to have to tailor every single thing that you buy. Just ask anyone under 5’3″, the official cutoff for petite girls, who often have to hem, dart and adjust their clothes before they even get a chance to wear them. Anthropologie is out to give small girls a shopping experience without that delayed gratification by adding 12 petite shop-in-shops nationwide, including L.A.’s the Grove, in addition to a dedicated petite shop in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

“We recognized a lack of options for women 5-foot-3 and under. At best, they might find a few basic pieces in petite sizes. We believe petite women deserve a rich selection of apparel that fits perfectly and allows them to express their personal style,” says Sarah Wagner, Anthropologie’s petites buyer. “We want to help our petite customer feel like herself no matter whether she’s attending a picnic or a dressy dinner party.”

The new shop-in-shops aren’t just an area with smaller sizes. Each Anthropologie Petites shop will include its own merchandise and unique merchandising displays to set them apart from the rest of the store. The shops will also include its own selection of apparel and accessories, drawing from the over 500 petite styles the brand carries online and in-store. Exclusive items include flowing maxis and cocktail dresses from the store’s capsule collection with L.A. brand Harlyn as well as picks from Anthropologie’s own house brands and contemporary labels such as Hi There Karen Walker, AG Jeans and Plenty by Tracy Reese. In the future, the petites shops will offer exclusive collections that won’t be available on the main Anthropologie sales floor, including this September’s collaboration with Eva Franco.
