DSquared2 and Zadig & Voltaire Bring a New Mix to Rodeo Drive

The retail scene on Rodeo Drive is a game of high-stakes, haute musical chairs. Stores are known to move around, absorb their neighbors to create huge destination shops and come and go just like trends on the runway. And on top of that, there’s always construction, expansion and remodeling being done on the street — you don’t see that aspect of the retail drag in movies, do you? — so while it might seem picture-perfect, it’s more of a feeding frenzy for the big names in fashion. Soon, Rodeo will be getting a huge revamp thanks to a slew of brands ready to set up shop.

DSquared2, the irreverent Canadian label known for shorter-than-short hemlines, over-the-top runway shows and a celebrity following that includes Rihanna (she actually walked in one of their runway shows), Fergie, Kylie Minogue and Madonna, will be replacing Italian heritage brand Etro, which will be moving down the street onto Wilshire Boulevard. If the store takes any inspiration from the brand’s current store design, expect a mix of Canadian wilderness in the form of raw wood pine forest wall treatments slashed with gleaming gold fixtures and space-age displays for the brand’s sunglasses, shoes and other accessories.

Zadig & Voltaire

In addition to DSquared2, French label Zadig & Voltaire is also coming to Rodeo Drive. Fans of the brand already know that it was started by Thierry Gillier (his father Andre Gillier was the co-founder of Lacoste) and his wife. Known for luxe takes on classic pieces — think leather overalls and acid-neon cashmere sweaters — the label’s got a huge following in Europe and in fashion circles around the world. Charlotte Gainsbourg, Marion Cotillard and Vanessa Paradis are often spotted wearing the label’s goods. Z&V will be replacing high-end handbag label Lana Marks.

Also on the horizon are new stores from Tory Burch, Vera Wang and a newly expanded Louis Vuitton location.
