Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Elizabeth and James boutique — the brand’s very first — at L.A.’s the Grove. It was a major get for the mega-mall, but it’s also a big win for shoppers. Not only do they get to experience the full breadth of the E&J brand, they’re surrounded by hand-picked vintage pieces that channel the twins’ own (very covetable) style. For resort, the designing duo took a cue from the retail concept of mixing new and old — think: vintage finds with brand-new Elizabeth and James picks — to their new presentation.
Anyone familiar with the Grove location knows that there are Vans, Levi’s, and other choice picks sprinkled in among the wares. They made an appearance at the new resort presentation, too, reflecting real-life styling and showing off the clothes just as they’d be worn out in the real world. Resort was a chance for the Olsens to play with brand signatures. Knits got lightened up and head-to-toe knit outfits (long dresses, louche pants, and oversized sweaters) could be something worn in warm weather and cooler temps alike. Whether resort means Palm Springs, Patagonia, or Paris, there’s a cool, relaxed outfit for every locale.

A few of the looks featured bold black-and-cream stripes, some done in classic horizontals and others placed just so to elongate the body and give models sky-high proportions. And for jet-setters who vacation in milder climes, the outwear was a standout — something that the sisters show in their more grown-up line, The Row. Reversible shearlings in rich jewel tones made for a cozy, fireside-ready look and more tailored pieces featured a dusting of big, shimmering black stones and embroideries. Pair any of the topcoats and dusters with the midi skirts, boyish button-ups, and those old school Vans for a look that works for work and play.
