Fashion’s leading ladies have a way of coming back. Pam and Gela, the colorful duo behind Juicy Couture, returned to fashion after they sold their first line and now they’re just as sassy and fun as ever. Emily Current and Meritt Elliot, the stylists-cum-designers that are credited with ushering in the boyfriend jean, sold their label in 2012, but they’re back on the scene with an all new look and a new brand: The Great.

The dynamic duo, who are known for styling celebs such as Jessica Alba and Emma Roberts as well as designing a line of home goods for PBteen, are bringing their tomboy signature and girly charm to an all new label. The Great, which will hit stores next spring, will span 130 different pieces in its initial collection. The name comes from Catherine the Great and the Great Gatsby and is a nod to history-making figures. But fans of the designers’ denim will have to wait. A no-compete clause in their contracts means that Current and Elliott can’t put out a pair of jeans until fall of 2015.

“Everything we create is nostalgic — it’s based on something familiar,” Elliott told WWD. “It has an ease of something boyish, but it has the softness of something feminine. That’s definitely our aesthetic in a nutshell. In this line, it’s the perfect balance.”

While their first brand was inspired by jeans that the pair found in their parents’ closets and vintage styles that they’d find when they scoured secondhand stores, the new line — and their new limitations on denim — incorporate a few new fabrications. For the very first time, the designers are working with softer fabrics such as tulle, eyelet lace and wool. They’re also incorporating knits and cashmere into the line.

Current and Elliott have woven different narratives to accompany each delivery. January’s debut will feature the “ruffled tomboy,” with high waisted trousers and tailored silk pieces. February will bring the “girlish scout” and military motifs while March’s “playful patriot” will be decked out in bold blues.

The two designers also became mothers last year (they had their babies within six weeks of each other) and will debut The Great Little alongside their new line. The little girls range will include t-shirts, pants, sweatshirts and more. A few pieces will share the same graphics, such as a bear screenprint, with the main The Great range. Mommy and me is about to get a lot more chic.
