Jenni Kayne Expands to Montecito, California Girls Rejoice

Cool girls already flock to Jenni Kayne’s store at the Brentwood Country mart to stock up on her d’Orsay flats, cool Cali-tinged ready-to-wear and browse wares from her friends in the fashion world such as Proenza Schouler (or, as she may refer to the designing duo, Jack and Laz), Marion Vidal and more. But like New Yorkers have to escape to the Hamptons every now and then when the weather’s great, Californians sometimes need to get away from the gridlock of Los Angeles, the rolling fog of San Francisco or the glaring sun of Palm Springs — even the chicest Tom Ford frames can’t dull every sunbeam, right? And for that, there’s Montecito, a sleepy seaside town that’s a few hours north of L.A. and just so happens to be the place Oprah calls home (one of them, at least).

Kayne’s set up shop in the quaint little city for those times she — and her legion of fashion fans — need to get away from it all. But not just that, she’s debuted her latest venture, Jenni Kayne Home, so you can outfit your beach house just like you’d outfit yourself, in true Kayne style.

The store has a decidedly beach lean (which makes sense in Montecito), eschewing the deeper woods and moodier colors of her Brentwood spot for clean white walls and shabby-chic pipe fixtures and merchandise displayed in woven baskets and repurposed boxes. In addition to her eponymous collection of ready-to-wear, the Jenni Kayne boutique is stocked with apparel from Patricia Underwood and it-label Elder Statesman along with accessories from under-the-radar labels Monsur Gavriel and Hoorsenbuhs along with more established brands such as Robert Lee Morris and fellow Angeleno Tom Binns. And if you’re already fully stocked on d’Orsay flats and the new kitten heel model, take a gander at the Birkenstocks — they’re in again, trust us! — and Sven Clogs.

Next door to her boutique is Jenni Kayne Home, a new concept from the designer. The shop, which was designed with architect Jeff Allsbrook (the same guy who worked on her adjacent boutique) and carries a quirky-cool selection of home decor, lifestyle items and a small selection of children’s clothes from Bonpoint and Nico Nico. Like her L.A. store, there are a few items from Diptyque and the Laundress, but the Montecito store is also stocked with Alma Allen table ware, Caleb Simeon ceramics and more.

Find time to visit both spots and see if you can spot items mentioned on Kayne’s blog, Rip + Tan, such as Live Wire Farms hooks for organizing jewelry and hats and tutus from Atsuyo Et Akiko, which we hear are a big hit with Kayne’s daugher Ripley.

Jenni Kayne Montecito is located at 525 San Ysidro Road.
