Do you live for the weekend? Kate Spade New York is hoping that you do with the release of Kate Spade Saturday, a new line from the beloved brand. But don’t call it a diffusion line, because in the world of the Internet and social media, Kate Spade Saturday is aimed at the cyber set who have readily embraced platforms such as Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook.

The brand will launch in spring 2013 and only be available online at www.saturday.com and in Japan, which will have the only Kate Spade Saturday flagship in Tokyo’s trendy Omotesando district. Plans for e-commerce also include Brazil, and Kate Spade is also planning to roll out of brick-and-mortar locations in that country as well. Stores will feature iPads that will offer the latest marketing material on display, from videos to blog content, as well as user-submitted material such as photos, Tweets and more, letting customers connect to the products on both a personal and social level.

While Kate Spade New York is aimed at a 30- to 40-year-old demographic, Kate Spade Saturday will skew younger and embrace bold colors and patterns, more youthful silhouettes and, most importantly, boast a lower price point, with apparel averaging $90, handbags in the $130 range and about $85 for footwear. Building on the playful nature of the new brand, bags will feature canvas construction or mixed materials. Some tote styles will even feature a hidden pocket to stow a bottle of wine for impromptu Saturday picnics. (The secret compartments also perfect for tucking umbrellas into for unexpected showers.) Customers will also have the option of customization with the option to add monogramming, choosing handle colors and more.

The brand’s shoes also lean more casual than Kate Spade New York’s preppy-meets-professional offerings. It is debuting with a collaboration with PF Flyers and will also offer an assortment of pumps, sandals and flats perfect for weekend strolls. In addition to shoes and handbags, the brand will offer apparel, home goods such as tableware and small furniture items and other accessories, from watches to eyewear and more, all featuring bold, bright colors and the trademark cheer and whimsy of the Kate Spade brand.

Kate Spade already has plans to set the Japan location apart from other retail concepts. The store will host special events every Saturday. For online shoppers, the Web site will be updated just as frequently with new editorial content. The first event is already scheduled with New York’s Sigmund’s Pretzels, which will give Japanese shoppers a taste of New York City. The flagship’s café will also feature a rotating roster of other American restaurants and food vendors to emphasize Kate Spade’s American heritage. So whether you’re traveling abroad to one of Kate Spade Saturday’s flagships or just shopping from home, you now have  one more stop to add to your weekend schedule.
