It’s rare that you don’t see Kate Hudson with sun-kissed skin, beachy waves and a gleaming smile. Even when the actress headed across the pond to London to promote her film Wish I Was Here, she seemed to bring the California sun with her, especially when she wore a sexy skin-baring outfit from Emanuel Ungaro. The surprise came in Hudson’s choice of pants. Hudson is generally known for her love of bohemian, feminine gowns, Versace showstoppers and Old Hollywood glam, so when she stepped out on the red carpet in statement-making pants, just about every head turned her way.
Hudson embraced the season’s more relaxed and louche trend, opting for tailored wide-legged pants with an optic pattern paired with a zebra patterned burnout top. It’s a look that’s red carpet ready without looking like any other cocktail dress, and we applaud Hudson (and her stylist) for embracing the season’s trends and bringing them into the spotlight.
While they’re not nearly as statement-making as the psychedelic Ungaro pants that Hudson wore in London, the Equipment Hadley Print Silk Pants ($248) are just as cool. The subtle pattern elevates these otherwise relaxed-looking pants into something you can easily take from desk to after-dinner drinks (bonus: elastic waistband!). These pants are made from the same washed silk that Equipment crafts their cult favorite shirts from, so they’re light-as-air without being sheer.
And if Hudson’s head-to-toe Ungaro look isn’t enough to convince you that cocktail hour only calls for LBDs and bandage dresses, one night out in flowy pants will have you converted.

1. Mixing patterns is easy as long as you keep the colors simple. The Rebecca Taylor Liger Stud Front Layered Silk Top ($325) is black, but definitely not basic, so it will pair with just about anything.
2. And if you’re going to wear a sheer shirt, your bra should have a few extra details, like the Free People Strappy Back Bra ($20).
3. Hudson paired her pants with white pumps, but we think a chic grey is much more interesting. Try the Stuart Weitzman Queen Pump ($375), with a sky-high heel and neutral-but-not-boring hue.
4. For delicate jewels that still stand out, L.A.’s celeb crowd flocks to Jennifer Meyer. Grab the Jennifer Meyer Gold Je T’Aime Pendant Necklace ($675), one of the designer’s most popular and precious pieces.
