Outfit Inspiration: Salma Hayek’s Red Carpet Tuxedo Look

Perrenial sexpot Salma Hayek downplayed her usual bombshell looks and sexy mermaid gowns for the premiere of Exodus: Gods and Kings in London. Add one more name to the list of tuxedo-clad ladies, because Hayek went for an all-Saint Laurent look that blended one of our favorite red carpet looks — the tuxedo — with a more feminine touch: a skirt. While most ladies opt for long, lean pants when they’re going full-on tomboy, this softer take on the trend is fresh and frankly, totally sexy.

Of course, since she was totally covered up, she let her famous legs do most of the talking. Try taking a little bit of outfit inspiration from Salma for your cocktail party schedule (which we’re sure is filling up quick) and you’ll stand out from the rest.

We’re big proponents of the tuxedo for women. And while it may seem like a special occasion piece that you won’t wear that often — which is the case for most guys who have a tuxedo of their own and don’t go the rental route — it’s actually a pretty and practical piece you’ll wear more often than you think. And you don’t have to go all-out when you’re shopping for one, either. The Catherine Catherine Malandrino Double Breasted Tuxedo Jacket ($178) is a great piece with a great price. It’s got all of the great details that you’d expect from a tuxedo such as a satin lapel and sharp tailoring, but it’s also got a few unexpected additions, such as a slim sleeve and a double-breasted silhouette. Wear it with jeans and a t-shirt for Kate Moss’ signature model-off-duty look, with a skirt just like Salma or with trousers for a powerful, bold look that blows those sequined cocktail dresses every other girl will be wearing out of the water.

1. For the most versatility, look for a tuxedo shirt that looks as good on its own as it does paired with other pieces. Case in point: the BCBGMaxAzria Joanne Tuxedo Bib Shirt ($178).

2. For a skirt that can stand up to the high style of your lady-tux, try the Maje Gaia Skirt ($235).

3. Salma went for a touch of lucite — throwback! The Salvatore Ferragamo Ninfea Pumps ($595) are a sophisticated take on the clear trend.

4. In homage to her head-to-toe Saint Laurent, we had to throw in the Saint Laurent Velvet and Leather Bow Tie Collar ($533.05).
