Outfit Inspiration: Wearing White Jeans in the Winter

White jeans

Old habits die hard, so chances are your white jeans are put away, waiting for the first sign of summer, the first trip to the Palm Springs — or Palm Beach. But trust us, you can wear those white jeans all year if you pair your favorite pair with season-appropriate pieces. So pull those jeans out of storage and get ready to get plenty of compliments on your sartorial savvy.

It’s easy to get into a rut, especially with your denim. While your trusty dark blues will always be in style, just replacing them with a go-to white pair is all it takes. In the summer you might pair your white denim with a tunic, a silky tank and other warm weather staples, but with arctic cold and snow flurries in the forecast for a huge chunk of the country, it’s safe to leave those in the back of your closet. Instead, grab your military parka, lug-soled boots and structured blazers and you’ve got a fresh outfit that gives your go-to blues a break.

AG Jeans Stil' Cigarette Leg Stretch Jeans

AG Jeans Stil’ Cigarette Leg Stretch Jeans

If you’re still on the hunt for a pair of white jeans, make a beeline for the AG Jeans Stilt Cigarette Leg Stretch Jean ($164). It’s a celeb favorite cut thanks to a skinny — but still flattering — leg that enhances curves with the perfect combo of stretch and structure. These jeans are lean and mean, which makes them the perfect pair to wear with your more structured cold-weather clothing. But like we said, these jeans go with everything from tunic to trench coat. Try them on and you just might find there’s just about nothing they won’t pair with. We recommend getting two pairs — a la Stacy London — hem one to wear with your flats and boots and hem the second pair so that they’re perfect with high heels. When you find something you love, you’ll want it to be as versatile as possible.

Wearing White Jeans in the Winter

Wearing White Jeans in the Winter

1. One way to beat the winter chill is to layer up. Hands down, our favorite layering piece is the Equipment shirt. The brand’s Signature Shirt in Ghost Plaid ($248) plays on this season’s black-and-white trend with a bold, graphic plaid that looks great on its own or peeking out from under a sweater. The deeper color keeps this look firmly in winter territory, but it’s still light and airy.

2. Speaking of sweaters, grab a great v-neck so you can stay warm without adding a ton of bulk. J. Crew’s knitwear is well-known for being well-priced and well-made, so stock up on the Merino Side-panel V-neck Sweater ($86). It’s a more relaxed take on the classic sweater, boasting a boxier, borrowed-from-the-boys shape that makes it great on its own or with a shirt under and jacket over.

3. Another way to layer is with a wrist full of bracelets and bangles. For bling that’s girly without being garish, head to Banana Republic, where they’ve got classic pieces that look glam and grown up. The Classics Status Bracelet ($45) is just that — a classic — while the Knot Bracelet ($35) and Giraffe Bracelet ($39.50) are a more whimsical way to throw an arm party. Wear each one alone or stack them all together for a look that begs for an Instagram selfie.

4. And to finish off the look, throw on a killer pair of shoes. The Rachel Roy Larson ($275) pairs texture, strong architectural lines and a tone-on-tone combo of blues that’s a chic alternative to basic black. The designer herself has been spotted in the style and she loved them so much she used them to style her holiday lookbook.
