Greek gods and goddesses inspired Rachel Zoe this season. Not a surprise, per se, since we’re accustomed to seeing her — and her roster of Hollywood stars — dressed in draped goddess gowns when hitting the red carpet. But this wasn’t a collection of gowns and togas. No, instead of taking the Grecian theme literally, Zoe drew on two aspects of ancient mythology: the gods of the sky and the gods of the earth.

For the sky, Zoe offered up pieces in teal and pale blue alongside gowns festooned in constellations and shooting stars. The shapes were her signature blend of L.A. boho and mega-watt glam, so there’ll be plenty for her clients as well as fans of the brand (which is growing season after season). Texture was a key element, as well. Standout pieces included a feathered shell and a dress hemmed in similar plumage. Embroidery took on dimension with 3-D embellishments and florals that begged to be touched. Photos — in Zoe’s lookbook as well as the paparazzi snaps these pieces will surely attract — just can’t illustrate how detailed they are.
And believe it or not, Zoe is loosening up beyond just giving her girl some flowing dresses. The earth gods were represented in sandy and neutral shades, but they also seemed to relax Zoe’s tailoring and outerwear, too.
The superstar stylist has never been afraid of power suiting, but for resort, the khaki suits and even a bold pink one were a little more laid-back, their razor-sharp lines turned down just enough to give them a little something new. And with looser shapes like boxy knits, kick-flare crops and fringed midi-skirts, there was plenty to like even if you don’t often get swarmed by flashbulbs.
