A Sneak Peek at Marc Jacobs’ Beauty Debut

It’s been a few months since the media caught wind of the impeding debut of Marc Jacobs’ new beauty line. First it was a nail polish spotted on Instagram. Then it was a lipstick someone happened to snap to Twitter. But with details few and far between, it was tough to get details about anything other than the fact that Jacobs was to team with beauty behemoth Sephora. More and more information is leaking, however, so you can stop holding your breath. The line is going to be a full-fledged beauty go-to for fans of fashion and face painting. So while we don’t advise throwing out your dependable cosmetic staples, you might just have to make a little more room on your vanity.

“I am beyond excited for the launch of Marc Jacobs Beauty,” the designer said. “The packaging is so seductive, so cool. The colors are gorgeous and inspiring and the formulas and textures invite you to ‘make-up.'”

The line will debut in the Fall at Sephora stores and include the aforementioned nail polishes (only clear, red and nude shades have been revealed to the world thus far) as well as lipsticks, eye shadows and more. Marc has had experience teaming with some of the biggest names in beauty — his bestie François Nars has been at the helm of beauty at his runway shows for the past few seasons — so he knows what it takes to get a girl looking her best. And as for a fashion designer turned beauty mogul? It’s been done before. Nobody blinked a smoky eye when Tom Ford debuted an entire beauty line to accompany his grand return to fashion or when Burberry also launched a line of beauty mirroring the brand’s Brit-cool vibe.

The Marc Jacobs beauty line promises to be user friendly and, like NARS before him, bear cheeky names for each item, though Jacobs’ leans more towards puns than provocation. The line’s eyeliner is called the Magic Marc’er Precision Pen and eye shadows have been dubbed Style Eye-Con palettes. Shoppers will have to keep waiting for the line’s full unveiling, but with each piece falling into place, we expect a full preview is just around the corner. We won’t be getting rid of cult faves such as Nars’ Orgasm or Deep Throat blushes, but we will be making space in our makeup bags for bosom buddies Nars and Jacobs. The more the merrier!
