Last year, MAC debuted their Viva Glam collection fronted by Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin (Nicki and Ricky, get it?) and since the fans loved it so much, it was an inevitable case of “so nice, let’s do it twice.” So for the latest campaign, Nicki takes the campaign solo for Viva Glam Nicki 2, a new shade of lipstick and lipglass that’s as bright and bold as the songstress herself.
Set to debut on February 9, 2013, Nicki’s new shade of lipstick is a creamy lavender (the color is also available in MAC’s lipglass formulation), a sharp turn from her more wearable and much-loved coral-red release from last year. And while she’s got the campaign to herself this time around — it’s no secret that Minaj isn’t one to share the spotlight — the ethos of Viva Glam remains the same. Every cent of the selling price for each of the products will go to the MAC Aids Fund, which helps men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS.
For those looking for a more sinister and less saccharine take on makeup, mark your calendars for October. Rick Baker, the makeup artist known for creating looks for Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Captain EO and Ghosts, will be collaborating with MAC for a collection that comes just in time for Halloween. Known for creating zombies, monsters and more (gorillas are a specialty of Baker, who also worked on Mighty Joe Young, Gorillas in the Mist and Planet of the Apes), the collection is sure to draw on Baker’s special effects techniques, giving stylish ghouls, ghosts and more the perfect tools for a flawless and frightful Halloween look.
