Beauty’s obsession with youth is nothing new, but two announcements today are giving the beauty industry an about face. Jessica Lange was announced as the new face of Marc Jacobs Beauty and it was also announced that Charlotte Rampling would be front and center in this fall’s NARS campaign, which marks the brand’s 20th anniversary.

Lange, who provided the eerily poetic spoken word soundtrack for Marc Jacobs’ latest fashion show in New York, will star in the brand’s latest advertisements (pictured above). The campaign, which was shot by famed photographer David Sims, features a soft peachy lip, defined brow and a smoky eye, a far cry from the bleached brows and pale skin of Jacobs’ etherial, light-as-air runway show. The news of the 64-year-old actress as the new face of Marc Jacobs Beauty was announced via Twitter.

Also announced today was the news that NARS Cosmetics would be featuring Charlotte Rampling in the its upcoming fall campaign. The 68-year-old actress, whose career spans almost 50 years, will be shot by François Nars himself in a black and white portrait-style advertisement.

“Charlotte’s ability of transformation is unparalleled,” Nars told WWD. “Whether captured in pieces of artwork, through the lens of a magazine photographer or on film and the big screen, she had an amazing power to encompass a character.”

Nars has shot the campaigns for his brand since his brand’s inception, creating now-iconic images and showcasing the transformative abilities of makeup. Nars named Rampling as an oft-cited muse for his brand, which is readying itself for its 20th anniversary.

“I remember Dirk Bogarde referencing Charlotte’s ‘fabled look’ because of the combination of her beauty and withering gaze,” Nars said. “This is what makes her an endlessly watchable mystery.”

With two huge names in fashion and beauty choosing these unexpected women to front their campaigns, the beauty industry is sure to be getting a new look. It might just be time to stop that eternal quest for the fountain of youth — being 60 never looked so great.
