Luxe French scent purveyor Diptyque is known for creating atypical scents for its candles, home fragrances and personal scents, and it has employed the same ethos when it comes to retail concepts. Instead of cookie-cutter shops, each of the brand’s locations has its own personality, design and story. The brand often eschews mainstream locations in favor of  setting up shop in more unexpected shopping thoroughfares. Case in point: The upcoming Los Angeles boutique will be on Larchmont Ave., a quaint four-block shopping stretch in L.A.’s Hancock Park neighborhood that is favored by locals for its farmers market, yoga studios and independent shops. But for the first foray into Southern California, Diptyque chose gilded shopping mecca South Coast Plaza in Orange County. Now open, the brand’s South Coast Plaza shop blends Parisian cool with SoCal casual.

“The new Diptyque address combines the creative and elegant heritage of the brand with a modern twist,” said Donna DiDonato, Managing Director for Diptyque USA. “From infusing the boutique with a new, exciting color palette to recreating wallpaper from the Beverly Hills Hotel in L.A., the design is truly an infusion of our Parisian boutique and Southern California glamour.”

The South Coast Plaza location houses every line of the Diptyque brand. Eau de toilettes and parfums sit alongside home fragrance and a complete body care line, but the main draw is sure to be the brand’s iconic candles. Introduced in 1963 with just three scents, the selection has grown to include cult favorites such as Baies (a combo of roses and blackcurrent leaves) as well as perennial favorites Roses and more.

The store itself reflects the heritage and history of the storied Parisian brand, incorporating the Martinique wallpaper print from the Beverly Hills Hotel along with fixtures and furniture sourced from around the world and Diptyque’s hometown. Also available is the 34 Boulevard Saint Germain collection, which celebrates the brand’s first store, which opened in 1961 in Paris.
