Asian skincare is set to take over the beauty industry. First, it was BB creams and their fellow alphabet-themed complexion products, and next, beauty devotees were obsessed with the multi-step Korean skincare routine. One thing that’s oft overlooked, however, is a form of exfoliation that dates back to the time of geisha. The Boscia Tsubaki Oil-Infused Exfoliating Powder ($36) brings Asia’s skincare secret right to Sephora.
“Exfoliating powders have actually been used throughout the ages in Japan,” says Amy Westerfield, Director of Education and Sales at Boscia. “They are a long-standing beauty practice amongst geisha, who, in order to achieve their iconic baby-soft skin, use them for gentle, consistent, long-term exfoliation.”
Unlike the cream-based scrubs that you might be used to, the Boscia Tsubaki Oil-Infused Exfoliating Powder is dry, so you’ll have to add water. Just sprinkle a little bit into your palm and after you add a bit of water, the powder transforms into a creamy, milky scrub that gently exfoliates. Boscia’s formula blends Adzuki beans, rice bran powder, jojoba leaf, and willowherb to clean the pores and prevent aging.
One of the greatest parts of this product is that its completely customizable. Need a little extra exfoliating? Use less water. Need a boost of moisture? You can use a facial oil instead of water for a mega-dose of moisturizer. Just rinse off and you’re left with baby soft skin.
