Clinique Even Better Essence Lotion

There’s been a lot of attention given to the almost mythical multi-step Asian skincare regimen (mainly Korean, but it’s spreading throughout the continent) and no matter how complex it gets, one step seems to stand out: the essence. It’s unfamiliar to most Western skincare whizzes, but the Clinique Even Better Essence Lotion ($32.50) is about to change that. The beauty giant is bringing essence to the states and it promises to cause a major beauty revolution.

Those familiar with Asian skincare lines might know a little bit more about essences, but for those of you beauties who don’t, it’s a step that you use post-toner and before your serum to prep your skin, add a major dose of skincare benefits and make your moisturizers and serums more efficient. The most famous essence out there is the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence ($105), which is a cult favorite among beauty junkies on both sides of the Pacific Ocean. Just pat (this is essential) your essence on after cleansing and toning and you’ll be reaping even more benefits from your skincare routine.

And while the Fashion Trends Daily staff gets a veritable deluge of new beauty finds on the daily, we’ve stuck to the SK-II Essence ever since we spotted it in a Duty Free shop overseas. The Clinique Essence just so happens to have the same active ingredient (saccharomyces ferment filtrate) as the SK-II essence (though SK-II calls it Pitera) and at a fraction of the price, we think that our beauty budget just got a little bit more room for extra lipsticks and blushes. The Clinique essence will give your skin a refreshing dose of moisture and add a myriad of plant-based antioxidants (cucumber, lentil, green tea) and more, giving you one more way to glow from the inside out.

Available at Sephora.
