When Lisa Eldridge, one of our favorite YouTube gurus — and the makeup artist of choice for leading ladies such as Kate Winslet, Kate Moss and more — was announced as the new creative director for Lancôme, we knew that we were in for a major influx of innovation. Any beauty junkie that watches her videos and tutorials know that she’s obsessed with Asian cosmetics, so it’s no surprise that Lancôme’s very first release under her tenure is inspired b one of the most popular items from Korea: the cushion compact. With the release of the Lancôme Miracle Cushion Liquid Cushion Compact ($46.50), girls everywhere have a chance to get some South Korean beauty technology on their own shores.
The new foundation delivery system involves a liquid foundation imbued inside a sponge, all housed in a compact. Use the included sponge to pat the cushion and you’ll get a lightweight, dewy finish foundation that’s made to last and feel completely weightless. The cushion compact is drip-free, portable and hygienic, since you’re not dipping fingers or using dirty brushes (admit it: you don’t wash your makeup brushes as often as you should).
“If you want a more precise application, I think it’s really useful just to fold the applicator in half and use that for those tricky-to-reach areas: so around the sides of your nose, under your nose, around the edge of your face, or underneath your eyes,” says Eldridge. “And if you do find that you need extra coverage, use your concealer on top. It will blend really easily on top of your Cushion.”
Available in 11 shades — versus the one or two that are often on offer from South Korean brands — there’s a shade for everyone who wants to experiment with their foundation. The formula isn’t only comfortable, it’s cooling and brightening, two things that you’ll definitely want to embrace this summer.
