New York

Heading to the Big Apple for Fashion Week? Kick off your visit to the shows by hobnobbing with designers all over the city:

  • Macy’s darlings Rachel Roy and Tommy Hilfiger will be making an appearance at the store on 34th, meaning guys and girls can get face time with two designers while getting some shopping done.
  • And since FNO merch is what most people will be aching for, head to any of these appearances FNO tote bagwhich include FNO tanks, totes and tees along with some major fashion heavy hitters.
  • Carolina Hererra will make an appearance (in all her regal glory) at her Madison Ave. flagship and Oscar de la Renta will host a book signing at Bergdorf Goodman.
  • Easy breezy Catharine Malandrino will pop by her Hudson Street boutique, and the incomparable Diane von Furstenberg will play host in her Washington Street store.

California

On the West Coast, Rodeo Drive will be bringing back its famed ferris wheel, but be sure your tips and toes are in tip-top shape by getting the latest collection from Chanel.

  • The Chanel nail bar (created just for FNO) by Peter Philips will debut a trio of denim-inspired hues at South Coast Plaza as well as the Robertson and Rodeo Drive locations.
  • At Satine, Lyst, Satine Label and Cobra Society are coming together for a competition (judged by Alex Davis, Kelly Sawyer and Jeannie Lee) integrating Lyst.com’s lookbook-esque sharing and the best use of Cobra Society and Satine Label items. Winners get a $500 gift card or a pair of boots. Not too shabby.
  • LL Cool J will host Westfield Century City’s events (there will also be an appearance by Mayor Villaraigosa), which include a FIDM dress design competition, a Simone I. Smith (that’d be LL Cool J’s wife) pop-up shop and in-store events from Juicy, Michal Kors, Thomas Pink, Sperry Top-Sider and more.
  • In Orange County, South Coast Plaza will be a hub for fashion events, with over 100 boutiques participating. Our pics? MAC will be hosting a MAC-Me-Over event, letting everyone get a makeover just in time for Fashion Week and Fendi will debut Karl Lagerfeld-designed portfolios. Saks Fifth Avenue will host a fabulous fashion presentation with cocktails and DJ, and  everyone can feel like a star at South Coast Plaza’s red carpet step-and-repeat and upload their photos to Facebook. For those who want one-of-a-kind shopping, head to YSL’s handbag event or Henri Bendel, where there will be Izak (that’s Bendel’s illustrator) printed merch for all.
  • Luxe book publisher Assouline will host a Caipirinha bar at their South Coast Plaza boutique provided by Cabana Cachaça and Samba lessons led by Carnivale-costumed Samba dancers. It’s a combo of the full flavor of Brazil and the pages of Assouline’s newest book Brazilian Style come to life. Assouline will also be snapping live Brazilian Style photos and uploading them to Assouline’s Facebook & Twitter pages.
  • At Fashion Island in Newport Beach, Bloomingdale’s space.NK will debut sai-sai, a line of body care products that directly support the Japanese Red Cross and host Living it Forever, a documentary exhibit about surf culture. At Neiman Marcus, there’s a draping demonstration (a la Project Runway, not HGTV), but for the home improvement crowd, there’s “The Art of Creativity,” an exhibition of gowns made from, wait for it, carpeting. Stores all over Fashion Island will be having in-store events, so grab a flute of bubbly in one shop while you browse and head to the next.
