No Tools Necessary: Hands-on Beauty With Nudestix

They’re not just for standardized tests anymore (and aren’t those all on computers these days, anyway?), because the beauty world is obsessed with pencils. Chubbies, to be exact. Ever since a certain brand launched its line of chubby lip pencils, just about every line out there has their own take on the beauty trend. But beauty’s newest kid on the block, Nudestix, is taking the pencil concept and fully committing. Every piece in its line, from lip color and eye shadows to complexion products, is in pencil form — with the exception of their mascara, which is outfitted with a traditional wand — making your beauty routine as easy as penciling in some color and smudging for that perfectly imperfect look.

“Nudestix is not a product that any beauty executive with 20 years of experience would create, because we don’t think like the up-and-coming generation…they have been influenced by technology, have access to curated lifestyles, and need their makeup to be easy, cool, and not look like too much effort was made,” says Jenny Frankel, founder of Nudestix. “As for brushes, forget it…fingers are their preferred choice.”

If you’re a beauty junkie, you’ll recognize Jenny Frankel as the creator of CoverFX. Before that, she played mad scientist at MAC, where she worked in product development. Inspired by her daughters, Ally and Taylor, Jenny took her 20 years of experience in the beauty business and created a line of easy-to-use, no-fuss makeup that was a far cry from the over-the-top editorial looks that they sported on set as models.

“We believe a natural look is a perfect fit for any face,” say Ally and Taylor Frankel. “We’re all born with our own unique look, so why cover it up with tons of makeup?”

The complexion, cheek and eye products from Nudestix are all housed in chubby pencils — and as a bonus, you get a cute tin carrying case to carry your entire beauty routine around with you. And while there isn’t a high-coverage foundation, smoothing on the Nudestix concealer just where you need it and blending it with your finger will give you that perfect no-makeup makeup look. Polished, but not too done up. Use the lip and cheek colors in the same way: draw or dot on the color and blend it out with your fingers. Think of it as a finger painting beauty routine that’s designed for on-the-go girls to get that lusted-after nude, natural look. Whether you’re grabbing a pencil cheek, lip or eye product, the line is offering every item for $24.

Each Nudestix product is formulated with antioxidants, skin-loving vitamins and moisturizers, so you’re getting subtle color that’s actually good for your skin. Eyeliners are packaged with sponge-tipped smudgers on the opposite end so you can even get that lived-in smoky eye that you’ve always wanted with just a sweep of color and a little bit of fancy finger play. And while the brand is committed to sticking to neutrals for the time being, expect a few bold shades for lips this fall, when the brand will be introducing gloss pens in both matte and gloss finishes.
