Chemistry and orthodontia are two reminders of high school that we’re happy to leave in the past, but there was something that brought us back to marching band and science labs when we caught wind of the Metals Collection, the latest release from Lipstick Queen. Inspired by time spent in her own high school science class, Poppy King formulated the new lippies to be slightly shimmery and all-out fabulous.

“I was inspired by how certain metals exert a force on the world around them,” said Poppy King, creator of Lipstick Queen. “It struck me that lipstick has the same ability to  attract people towards you. So I created these lipsticks with a metallic element that makes them mesmerizing and completely magnetic to the eye.”

The collection contains three shades: Metal Red, a deep pillarbox red; Metal Wine, the perfect plum for autumn and the holidays; and Metal Nude, a wearable nude that leans rosy and has a gold lean. Each of the shades has a metallic finish, but it’s definitely not the frosty shimmer that you may have worn with your pom poms back in the tenth grade. Instead, it’s a subtle jewel-like glint thanks to King’s use of ultra-fine metallic pearl. The rich, pigmented formula (would you expect any less from Lipstick Queen?) also contains apricot kernel oil, vitamin E and more for a smooth, even finish that’s nourishing and comfortable to wear.

“Metallic accents are the easiest way to add a spark to your wardrobe,” added King. “And now you can do the same with your lips!”
