Pucker Up! Poppy King’s Hot Lipstick Hues For J. Crew And More!

Poppy King, the self-declared reigning queen of lipstick, has always given major lip service to the beauty world. With a pedigree that includes designing lip products and trend spotting for Estée Lauder, two books and two incarnations of her own lipstick brand, this 20-year lipstick veteran is still hard at work perfecting her hues and launching more cult-fave products. Her brand, Lipstick Queen, is carried at Barney’s Co-Ops and Space.NK stores, as well as chic boutiques around the globe and has been a trend-setting favorite with beauty editors and customers alike.  Some of her hottest selling colors include her practically perfect rosy stain, Medieval, to Black Tie Optional, a gorgeous nude that looks black but comes out beautifully neutral. This fall, Poppy’s stepping out and lending a helping hand to a few of of our favorite brands (see below), ensuring that pout-perfect lips are front and center this season.

“Lipstick is not a cosmetic. It is part of the experience of being female, and therefore it will never merely be a product,” said Poppy. “My success with one category comes from deeply understanding the nuances. I will continue to unlock its secrets going forward as it continues to unlock mine.”

Poppy King for J. Crew ($18)

If you’ve envied the fresh-faced look of J. Crew’s catalog models (and, ahem, Jenna Lyons herself), then you’ve probably seen the red-orange hue that’s graced the lips of the girls for the past few months. Taking a cue from that color, Poppy King created what she and J. Crew have deemed the perfect lip color. A “buildable” sheer, this red-orange bullet is an instant classic and takes all the guesswork out of finding that perfect red. But don’t wait for it, because even King noticed that those bullets are flying off the site.

Said Poppy, “The shade is selling out, so people have to be fast!”

Kate Spade Supercalifragilipstick ($24)

Poppy is a vintage vixen, rarely seen without her own perfectly glam red pout, so teaming up with Kate Spade, another brand that takes a cheeky look into the past, was a perfect fit. With the intention of creating a gloss-balm hybrid that’s more futuristic than ’50s inspired, they created Supercalifragilipstick, a four-shade range that spans the gamut with a sheer nude, a perfect red, a fun fuscia for the more daring and a universally flattering pink. Packaged in a sleek gold tube, it will make you smile every time you slick it on.

Poppy King for Boots No7

On the horizon for us Yankees is Poppy’s previously released collection for Brit beauty giant Boots. Her No7 Poppy King line is a collection of seven lipsticks and coordinated glosses. The colors are based on Poppy’s credo that lipstick is utterly transformative. With names like Allure, Passion, Magic and more, the colors are practical and wearable for real women (they range from a classic red to a peach-tinged nude), not just those with professional makeup artists at their disposal. Expect these in Target stores come November. For those who can’t wait, a telephone call across the pond may be in order.
