With summer coming to a close, our clothes aren’t the only thing that need a little refresh. If you’ve had a little too much time in the sun or you just want to prep your complexion for the fall, there are a few things you can do to look your best when you’re slipping into those cozy knits ordering up pumpkin lattés. We enlisted the help of Los Angeles’ very own Dr. Haroldd Lancer, who can count Victoria Beckham, Julianna Margulies, Mena Suvari, Jennifer Lopez, trainer Jillian Michaels, Beyoncé and Ryan Seacrest as loyal devotees at his Beverly Hills office, to give us a few tips on how to keep that summer glow going all year long and what to change in your skincare routine (hint, it’s not what you think) to make your fall skincare transition as smooth possible.

The Lancer Method

The Method

Fashion Trends Daily: Do we really need to switch up our skincare when the weather starts to cool down?

Dr. Harold LancerThe Method – Polish, Cleanse and Nourish – is designed to be a skin care routine for all seasons, climates, and ethnicities. With the approach of fall and winter, we do need to keep in mind that skin will be under greater metabolic stress; meaning the skin’s cycle of renewal slows during the colder months.

FTD: Do we have to make drastic changes to what we’re already using?

HL: Skin’s vascular structure changes in fall and winter. Skin is less efficient at circulating blood to it’s surface. To combat these natural changes, I usually recommend an additional layer of anti oxidant, anti-inflammatory peptide nourishment to keep skin looking and feeling its best.

FTD: Let’s say, hypothetically, that this summer, we might have been less than careful with our sunscreen. And we might have spent a little too much time at the beach. What can we do to get our skin back in working order?

HL: Switching to fattier foods – think olive oil, salmon, avocados – helps our bodies hydrate internally and feed our skin. Reducing salt and sugar will also help with the change. Besides nutritional changes, continuing to exercise and care for the skin on our bodies are both extremely important.

The Method Body Polish

The Method Body Polish

FTD: With all of our great coats and knits ready to be worn, we won’t be showing much of anything — do we need to take care of the skin on our bodies even though it’s not going to show?

HL: Many people have a tendency to let the skin on their body go during the winter because the we are not showing as much skin, but if you want to look fresh when the warmer months finally do roll back around, don’t neglect your body. My Body Method – Polish, Cleanse and Nourish for the arms, legs and trunk – is an excellent way to maintain healthy, evenly toned skin.

FTD: What is something extra we can do to boost our skin for the coming season?

HL: We recently brought in a very rare treatment to the office – a radio frequency machine paired with 24-karat gold micro pins. The combination of these two techniques, which we are calling the Lancer Gold Probe Method, is essentially self PRP (platelet rich plasma) donation. The cutting edge PRP treatment that recently received so much press was the so called “Vampire Facial,” where skin is manually perforated using a micro-roller and the patient’s own blood plasma is topically applied to the skin. Our treatment actually causes the skin to produce more of it’s own plasma where the gold pins have been used. The result is like refined mesotherapy – and the results are wonderful.

FTD: If we can’t splurge on the 24-karat gold micro pin facial, is there something we can use at home?

HL: We are close to the launch of our revolutionary new serum, Younger: Pure Youth Serum, which imitates the effects of retinol without the usual side effects of redness and irritation. We are also close to the launch of our new Volumizing Lip Serum which is perfect for colder months as both a protectant and hydrator.

FTD: Everyone in L.A. is obsessed with youth and we like that you’re not just about products and procedures. What are some tips you can give us to keep looking and feeling young?

HL: Outside of skin care and products, I always recommend that my patients closely examine their diet, lifestyle and exercise routine. Anyone curious about changes to diet and lifestyle should pick up a copy of my book Younger: The Breakthrough Anti-Aging Method for Radiant Skin ($27, Grand Central Life & Style).
