To the Rescue: Fashion Week Must Haves for Mini Emergencies

One day into the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week shows in New York mixed with some Fashion’s Night Out revelry and we now have blisters, puffy eyes, dark circles and other self-afflicted bumps and bruises that come with Fashion Week madness. And we know we’re not the only ones who must need some relief. When we arrived two nights ago at our hotel, the fashion set had already descended and was fast at work apparently drawing inspiration for this season from hard partying duo Cheech and Chong: Girls in little leather shorts with giraffe legs emerged from a billowing cloud of smoke in our hallway that had that unmistakable stench of a popular plant that we guessed was not being used for the purpose of making hemp clothing for an upcoming show…

A few coughs and sputters later and a room change to a different floor inspired us to seek out some of our favorite products to repair, revive and reanimate. Check out a few of our beauty besties to pull you through any slump. And the best thing is that all these little miracles are perfectly legal!

Hydroxatone HydrolyzeHydroxatone Hydrolyze Advanced Under Eye Treatment ($79.95)

Too much fashion week champagne and not enough sleep will leave you dehydrated the next morning and facing a pair of raccoon eyes in the mirror. Not so cute. Our insta-fix?  Hydroxatone’s Hydrolyze Advanced Under Eye Formula. We got a little scoop that the coveted skincare line has put together a luxe Hydroxatone package for the gift bag at the uber-exclusive Ford Artists lounge. We know what kind of grueling schedules the models have, so if they’re slathering it on we want a heaping dose, too! The line, which also happens to be the official skincare sponsor of the Daytime Emmys, recently bowed at Macy’s Herald Square in Midtown Manhattan and will be rolling out to over 40 Macy’s doors nationwide.

Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover ($24)

Urban Decay Meltdown Remover

As tiresome as it may seem after the shows and some bubbly, there’s no excuse for not getting all your makeup off before collapsing into your bed. For a quick one-step remover, Urban Decay’s Meltdown Makeup Remover gets everything from waterproof mascara to long-wearing lipsticks off with one product and no rinsing necessary. We like easy. Residue-free, it’s the perfect thing to reach for after you have a couple of Advil and a tall glass of water.

Dr. Scholl's Blister DefenseDr. Scholl’s Blister Defense Anti-Friction Stick ($6.99)

Where were you Anti-Friction Stick when we needed you the other night?! Sky-high heels are de rigeur, but the blisters that come with them don’t have to be. (We can still barely get our sneaks on after donning a pair of five inchers from 8 am to 8 pm the other day!) Slick on Dr. Scholl’s clear stick and you’ll prevent any friction (and the inevitable blister).  Throw this one in your new fall bag and breathe a sigh of relief.

Essie Dry Stops Here Nail Mask ($9.50) Essie Dry Stops Here

While we do love gel nails, we can’t resist the idea of a new mani for every day, or even every show! (We can dream, right?) Even if you’re not changing your color that often, dry, cracked hands and nails come with the territory of handshakes and hand washing. The Essie nail mask injects moisture back into your tips, preparing them for your next mani or the next time you need shake hands with your fashion idol. And while you’re at it, pick up one of her fabulous, new fall colors.  We’re hooked on the deep grape hue of “Carry On.” We had a chance to meet Essie at the Lucky Mag Fabb blogger conference earlier this week, and discovered that new shades come out ever 90 days! When we get back from fashion week, we’re going to buy a new cabinet just to house our collection.

Phyto Phytokarite MaskPhyto Phytokarite Ultra Nourishing Mask – Ultra Dry Hair ($38)

And like your hands and feet, hair can definitely take a beating whether you’re at Fashion Week or just going about your usual busy lifestyle. If you’re over-processed, recovering from summer’s sunbathing and saltwater or just need some major nourishment for your tortured tresses, Phyto’s ultra nourishing mask will rescue your ‘do with fatty acids, shea butter and more. We always stash a couple of packs in our beauty kit.
