Derek Lam 10 Crosby x Athleta
For the very first time, Gap, Inc.-owned Athleta is announcing a designer collaboration. The fitness wear label is teaming with New York-based Derek Lam’s diffusion line, Derek Lam 10 Crosby for a capsule collection of athleisure wear that’ll take women from brunch to downward dog without missing a step.
The Derek Lam 10 Crosby collection for Athleta is a lifestyle collection that encompasses more than just gym wear.
“Our customer leads a very active lifestyle,” Lam explained in a release. “Fitness is very much a part of it and we always strive to create clothing which works in her life. Athleta’s expertise in performance fabrics and fibers has offered us a really exciting opportunity to create a collection which complements perfectly what we do for Derek Lam 10 Crosby.”
Lam is already known for laid-back, luxe offerings in his 10 Crosby line, which has found a sweet spot in fashion by combining technical performance fabrics with high design, which makes it a perfect match for Athleta, a brand known for offering more than just workout wear. A visit to any of Athleta’s stores surrounds shoppers in an all-encompassing world of off-duty loungewear, technical outerwear and performance gym wear all in one space in addition to offering up lifestyle pieces such as yoga mats, water bottles and accessories.
“We’re excited to collaborate with partners who share Athleta’s passion for fitness and style and understand that the modern woman lives her life on-the-go,” Athleta president Nancy Green added. “Versatile clothing with elevated style that takes her throughout the day is incredibly important to our customer. Derek Lam 10 Crosby is the right brand to expand Athleta’s offerings.”
The Derek Lam 10 Crosby collection will be available in stores (including the Derek Lam 10 Crosby store in New York’s SoHo) and online beginning in September and continue through three seasons with a projected finale in spring of 2016, though there’s always the opportunity for continued collaboration if the goods prove too good to come to an end.. The capsule collection will include leggings, shorts, dresses, jackets, sweatshirts and sneakers.
The collaboration marks Athleta’s first collaboration, but not its first foray into courting the fashion set. In fall 2014, the brand staged a fashion show during New York Fashion Week which featured aerialists, gymnasts, dancers and more. With athleisure’s continued popularity, the Derek Lam 10 Crosby collection for Athleta might just be the beginning of many fashion and fitness collaborations.
