eBay Holiday Collective is Perfect for Fashionable Gifting

Not only is the holiday season coming up, retailers have also decided that the weeks post-Halloween are perfect for dropping their fashionable collaborations. H&M will be debuting its highly-anticipated (and head-scratching) collection with Maison Martin Margiela on November 15, Target and Neiman Marcus will have their huge collection in-stores on December 1, Gap and GQ have had their Best Menswear Designer in America collection for a few weeks now and Coach and Anna Sui have their boho hobos in store as you read this sentence. Add one more to the list: the eBay Holiday Collective, which includes designers Chris Benz, Billy Reid, Ruffian, Fallon, Tibi, Steven Alan and Jonathan Adler, will debut online on November 12, is full of fashionable gifts that you’ll actually want to give (or keep), and believe it or not, they all ring in at under $100.

The problem with some designer collaborations is price point. In reality, you’re saving a huge chunk of money when you snag a Margeila x H&M puffer coat in lieu of the real deal ($400 vs. $1,500 at Bergdorf Goodman), but $400 is a far cry from the other coats you’ll see hanging at H&M. And in reality, a $400 coat isn’t something you’ll be gifting to your family. That’s why the eBay Holiday Collective eschews those high price points and capped their pricing at $100, which won’t even buy you the coveted Thom Browne tipped blazer at Target when it arrives in-store.

“By bringing together seven diverse, tremendously talented designers, we’re able to meet the needs and wants of our eclectic, global community with a curated assortment of gifts this holiday season,” said Jeff Somers, General Manager of Fashion at eBay. “Our partners were chosen based on their genuine enthusiasm for eBay and because each brings originality and a distinct point of view, and embodies the entrepreneurial spirit of our marketplace.”

The seven designers each provided small capsule collections to form the 40 piece collective and their offerings range from small leather goods to tech accessories, home goods, jewelry and travel essentials. We love Tibi’s spin on the holiday sweater ($75), which features a penguin done up in a lace motif, as well as the brand’s on-trend leather tee ($95). Tibi’s lace motif features throughout their capsule collection, which also includes long-sleeved tees and sweatshirts in a grey and black colorway. While they aren’t the most festive colors to throw on during the holidays, you’ll appreciate the monochromatic staples long after your tree is dried out and you’ve kissed your sweetheart on New Year’s Eve.

Travelers will love Southern gent Billy Reid’s lightweight canvas carry ons, which include totes, duffles, garment bags and even a canvas passport wallet, which feature real leather handles and the designer’s signature American style. He jets between his home base in Alabama and New York so often that he’s whittled his essentials down to this collection, which ranges from $35 to $88.

For the homebody on your list, Chris Benz — who is no less jet-set than Reid, he just appreciates a quiet night at home — offers luxe loungewear, including a cashmere tee ($75) and his-and-hers pajamas ($85-95), each featuring a new tropical print that will glam up any staycation. Our favorite Benz piece would be the correspondence cards ($20), which will allow you to let your friends know you’re doing just fine at home while they brave the crowds and delays at the airport this season.

Ties and scarves are holiday standbys. But Ruffian’s silk ruffle scarves ($95) are anything but ordinary. They’re probably the biggest statement-maker in the entier eBay Holiday Collective, especially in the hot pink, so make sure you’re giving it to the fashion plate on your list. Mens’ ties ($55-65) are a touch more subtle, featuring the Ruffian logo done up in rhinestones or a more festive brocade pattern.

Fallon, one of our favorite jewelry designers, brings her signature spikes, studs and luxe layers to the collection with her parure of gilt beauties ($58-98). The ID bracelet will let everyone know you mean serious business — spikes and rhinestones will do that — when it comes to accessorizing, but don’t be scared away if this bold look isn’t your style. Snag the earrings, which are a more delicate and everyday way to wear Fallon’s iconic spikes and sparkle.

For the tech geeks in your life, the Steven Alan capsule collection is a chic way to house everything from your camera to your iPad ($65-100). The all-leather collection, which is available in both black and a deep, rich brown, includes a wallet, too, so friends can have one on hand no matter what they’re carrying with them. The iPad sleeve is also perfect for notebooks, so toss your old ledger (you know, the one you got with your college diploma) and upgrade to this chic accessory.

And to outfit your home, happy chic designer Jonathan Adler’s offering a whole selection of home goods to add sparkle and cheer to your holiday decorations. His signature moustache and muse salt and pepper shakers ($48) get a glam remix with a mirrored finish and his peace and love motifs are available on ornaments ($48) and keepsake boxes ($68). We love the silver finished picture frames — with a new studded finish — and the coasters are a great hostess gift for the Adler junkie in your life.

The eBay Holiday Collective will be available online on November 12, with the But it Now option with the prices listed, so don’t fret about being outbid on your favorites. But don’t dawdle, either, we’re sure that these must-haves will sell out just like every other fast-fashion collaboration.
