hakuho-do + SEPHORA PRO Brush Collection

To say that the brush selection at Sephora is exhaustive would be a huge understatement. Not only does the beauty superstore carry brush options from makeup brands such as NARS, Tarte, Marc Jacobs and more, it’s fully stocked with its own house brand of brushes so everyone can play makeup artist or just get the tools they need to get the job done. The options just got a little bit bigger with the Hakuho-do + Sephora PRO Brush Collection ($30-54), but don’t pass this one over: it’s the very first time the master Japanese brushmakers have ever collaborated with anyone — so you know it’s got to be good.

Beauty junkies know Hakuho-do for creating some of the world’s very best brushes (and consequently, some of the most expensive). But Sephora wanted to bring the technology and technique of Hakuho-do to its customers, so the two teams worked together for a unique collection of synthetic brushes that marry Japanese tradition with Sephora’s cutting-edge ethos.

The five-piece collection includes everything that you’ll need to create a flawless face, including a powder, blush and highlighting brush (though many of these tools are master multi-taskers). There’s also a concealer brush and cheek brush to round out the collection. Like all of Hakuho-do’s traditional offerings, these brushes are handmade in Japan using 200 year old techniques and these brushes are soft as cashmere — yet manage to deposit more product onto the face (due to less absorption) and are more hygienic than natural hair, which can foster germs and bacteria. Want even more details? Here’s Sephora’s rundown:

Kusabi Wedge Sloping Powder Brush (Kusabi): A large angled powder brush with a brand-new shape developed by the Sephora Pro team for the self-application of powder, bronzer, or for neck shading.
Otsubu Large Teardrop Pointed Powder Brush (Otsubu): A large pointed powder brush to apply powder, contour, or bronzer.
Kotsubu Small Teardrop Pointed Highlighter (Kotsubu): A revolutionary medium-point highlighter brush for precision contouring and highlighting.
Ougi Fan Cheek Brush (Ougi): A universal blush brush to apply blush, contour, or for a natural, no-makeup look.
Kusuriyubi Angled Concealer Brush (Kusuriyubi): A multitasking brush with angled shape for allover eye shadow, cream eye shadow, undereye concealer, and highlighting.
