Halle Berry has a pied-à-terre in Paris, which might seem indulgent, but it’s that Saint-Germain address that introduced her to the French lingerie line Scandale. First, Berry was intrigued by the vintage ads, which were illustrated by famed artist René Gruau, and then she was stricken by the heritage and history, which can be traced back to 1932. Berry was so intrigued that she set to acquire the rights to the name and bring it to America. The result? Scandale Paris, set to launch this Monday at Target stores nationwide.

“I thought this would be the perfect way to bring that Parisian glamour and sophistication that I feel about all things Parisian to America,” Berry told WWD.

The 10-piece collection will make its debut at Target stores and at Target.com and instead of carrying price tags more in line with French lingerie brands, the bras and panties will be sold at more reasonable prices, with panties ringing up at $7 and bras topping out at just $18. The price point was key for Berry, who noticed that French women pay more attention to their lingerie than their American counterparts.

“I have some friends of mine — who will remain nameless — who wear the same ‘janky’ bras for five years straight!” she told Vogue. “As Americans, we can go there, but what I learned about the French woman is that she is always updating her lingerie.”

And Berry isn’t just putting her name on the label. She’s part owner of the line now and insists that she has a hand in the design of each piece. The debut collection includes Scandale signature such as black diamond-patterend mesh, touches of crimson, black and nude lace as well as animal print pieces. It’s the very first time that Berry has put her name on a product that she’s worked with from start to finish. Berry continues to be a spokesperson for the cosmetics company Revlon as well as a line of perfumes in partnership with Coty. She has also teamed with Michael Kors on a charity watch that provides food and water to children in Africa with the United Nations World Food Program.

Scandale Paris will be available at Target stores and online at Target.com.
