It Brit Alexa Chung is adding one more line to her design resume (ahem, CV) with the announcement of a capsule collection with denim giant AG Adriano Goldschmied. Chung is teaming with the L.A.-based denim line for a 20-piece capsule collection that will rang from overalls and denim dresses and also include t-shirts and jeans. The collection, entitled Alexa Chung for AG, will hit stores in January 2015.
“The collection is inherently the missing pieces of my dream denim wardrobe, which, as ever, is predominantly inspired by a late Sixties, early Seventies aesthetic,” Chung said.
Chung, who is known for hosting television shows, modeling and playing muse to designers that range from Karl Lagerfeld to the boys of Proenza Schouler, has long been a fashion darling. Millennials have lauded her style for blending high-end designers such as Chanel and Fendi with accessible high street (that’s Brit slang for fast fashion) labels such as Topshop and H&M. Previously, she worked with J.Crew’s sister brand Madewell for a grunge-inspired collection in 2011 that sold out in a matter of days.
Chung isn’t just slapping her name on a few designs, either. During the development of the Alexa Chung for AG collection, she had the opportunity to visit the Koos Manufacturing facility in South Gate, Calif. and see exactly how AG Jeans are manufactured.
“I found the trip incredibly inspiring and an opportunity to learn about denim and make things I had been dreaming about finding,” Chung said to WWD.
Not surprisingly, Chung’s go-to denim labels run the gamut from high (A.P.C.) to low (Wrangler and Lee). Her capsule collection for AG will include the medium blue washes that she favors and the skirts, jackets and shirts will play on the boy-meets-girl tomboy look that she’s mastered. Chung recently teased the collaboration on her Instagram, giving her fans a sneak peek at a frayed denim vest, high-waisted denim shorts and a denim skirt and jacket combination that recalled ’90s Versace. The collection, which will be carried at AG stores as well as online at Net-a-porter and Shopbop, will range from $70 to $300.
Chung will model the collection in an advertising campaign set to debut this fall and the collaboration will continue into fall of 2015. Previously, AG has collaborated with Orange County-based menswear label Travis Mathew, stylist Cher Coulter and Liberty Art Fabrics.
