In what may be the sweetest pairing of the summer, fashion’s favorite macaron emporium, Ladurée, has teamed up with L.A.’s Gray Malin for a limited-edition box that brings together the photographer’s iconic beach photos and the storied French bakery’s iconic confections.
Ladurée, which now has two location in sunny Southern California, has been a longtime fan of Malin, who said that the connection is mutual. After all, both the bakery and the lensman have a penchant for whimsy; bold, beautiful colors; and embody a sort of fantasy escapism that’s hard to deny.
“I am a longtime admirer of the Ladurée brand and it is a true pleasure to mix my timeless artwork with their iconic masterpiece: the macaron. This collaboration celebrates the essence of summer, while bringing my artwork to life in a new and unexpected way,” Malin said in a statement.
He lent two of his images to the brand, both of candy-colored life preservers. One features mainly turquoise floaties in a sea of azure and the other offers up a similar striking image of fuchsia floats. The two boxes house six of the brand’s irresistible macarons and make for a great keepsake long after the sweets are gone. Additionally, Malin will be offering a limited-edition fine-art print that features Ladurée’s location at The Grove. It’ll be available exclusively at Malin’s own website. The boxes and print will be available at all locations — giving everyone a chance to soak up the L.A. sun — starting July 1.
Malin joins a long list of collaborators that have worked to give Ladurée’s colorful sweets a makeover. In the past, the brand has worked with Lanvin, Emilio Pucci, and Matthew Williamson to design special boxes as well as blogger Chiara Ferragni of the Blonde Salad, who recently hosted a pop-up shop at the Grove.
Malin isn’t the only one working with Ladurée this summer. The brand is teaming up with arguably the most fashionable doll in the world, Barbie, for the release of her new style book with Assouline.
