Tracy Anderson Launches Leggings with Edition01

You know Tracy Anderson as the trainer that whips Gwyneth and J.Lo into shape and as the woman behind the Metamorphosis workout method, a system that addresses trouble spots. But she’s adding one more notch onto her belt: designer.

Partnering with Edition01, the online site that specializes in creating exclusive collaborations with designers, she’s launched a line of leggings to fit the four body types she outlines in her Metamorphosis method, giving every woman a cut that flatters in or out of the gym.

The line came about when Anderson’s clients asked (practically begged) her for info about the leggings she wore to their training sessions. Anderson’s were bespoke (naturally) blending custom fabrics into cuts that she knew flattered her own body. So instead of insisting that every client get made-to-measure workout clothes, she developed the Tracy Anderson for Edition01 line, a four-piece collection of leggings (priced at $125 each) for women of all shapes and sizes.

Each cut references a body type in Anderson’s Metamorphosis method. With a cut that corresponds with each of the four shapes, the leggings look great in the gym and out of it. Omnicentric ladies (those that carry their weight throughout their bodies) get all-over control with a capri cut to flatter their legs while the abcentric (ladies who have extra weight around their midsection) style integrates a higher rise and more support in the lower stomach. The other two styles, the glutecentric and hipcentric each have special seams to elongate the body and special mesh panels that are as much function as fashion: They contour the body to accentuate curves and hide trouble spots.

If you’re not sure what shape you are, Edition01 links to Anderson’s Body Type Calculator, which not only lets you know which style suits you best, but also leads you to a workout regimen that’ll whittle your problem areas and get you in the same league with Anderson’s A-list clientele. (Ok, -ish)

For the lookbook, Anderson’s clients modeled each of the pieces two ways: one look was gym-centric (though we’re not recommending a blow out right before a strenuous Metamorphosis-style workout); the other showed how the leggings can be worn with pieces in your closet. Anderson herself prefers Isabel Marant and Azzedine Alaïa (we’re going to credit BFF Paltrow for that influence). Actress Sally Pressman, who stars in Lifetime’s Army Wives, and Jenni Konnor, a writer and executive producer for HBO’s Girls are just two of the celebs modeling Anderson’s line.

Each piece from Edition01 is hand-numbered so that shoppers know they’re getting a unique piece they can’t get at department stores or specialty boutiques. The creators, Estefania Lacayo and Jessica Wilpon Kamel, carefully curate all the stock so that the site’s shoppers only get the best of everything — from staples such as workout gear and tailored pieces to finishing touches such as jewelry and bags.
