Lucky, Esquire and Domino Release Special Editions for Fall

Did you ever get through your September issues? While those huge tomes take the lion’s share of attention when fall’s magazines arrive on newsstands, a few big names choose the fall season to add a special edition to their rotation as well. Instead of adding a supplement, which is how Marie Claire at Work operates, or just integrating a special edition into their normal rotation (see: GQ‘s Big Fall Style Play-book), Domino, Lucky and Esquire are releasing their seasonal specials separately.

Domino Best Rooms Fall 2012

Domino Best Rooms Fall 2012

When we met Lucky Magazine Executive Editor Deb Schwartz at this year’s FABB Conference, we were delighted to find that she was a big part of the team that spearheaded Domino, a magazine that is still missed by its huge legion of loyal readers, including us! Still a huge fan herself, Schwartz referred to the recent release of Domino special editions as “zombie Domino,” since the magazine is still dead, for all intents and purposes. But, we’ll take even an undead Domino, if we can get our mitts on it! You should have seen what we had to do to locate the spring/summer one they released. Basically a mashup of “best-of” with new material sprinkled in, each special edition revisits old favorites such as Jenna Lyon’s New York townhouse and integrates new how-tos to add the latest interior trends to your rooms. These babies are hard to find though, so be warned — snatch it up if you see it at your local bookstore.

Esquire Big Black Book Fall 2012

Esquire Big Black Book Fall 2012

Twice a year, Esquire releases their Big Black Book. (Let’s keep it clean now, everyone!) The pages contained within the guide really are an insider’s guide to the trends of the season. This season, the guide takes a pared-down approach to reflect the recent shift towards minimalism in menswear. Whereas past issues extolled the virtues of male peacocking and encouraged guys to pile on scarves, colorful socks and bright blue blazers, the Fall/Winter 2012 edition will feature a glove guide, how-tos on wearing turtlenecks and black tie rules for the modern man. And like a true black book, Esquire will give you a list of the world’s best boutiques, tailors and more in case you find yourself in Moscow in need of a last-minute bespoke three-piece. Trust us, its come in handy more than once.

The 128-page guide runs the gamut from underpinnings to outerwear, hairstyles to stilettos, so you’ll be referring to it season after season for years to come. And in true Lucky style, it’s sure to be a fun, irreverent twist on the typical style guide.
