Missoni Launches Today And Crashes Target Site! But We’ll Tell You How To Get In…

Missoni is no stranger to the collab scene–Havianas, a stroller with Bugaboo, a limited edition bottle for Pellegrino and Converse high tops– but what had fans of the brand really salivating was the huge (400+ pieces) collection for Target, which just launched today to a dizzying frenzy and the crash of Target’s Web site. Demand was so insanely high today that the site crashed and shoppers were left feverishly trying other avenues, such as old-fashioned phone calling. We tried the site several times and couldn’t get past the stuffed Target spokesdog on the downed Web site page who declared with a bold “Woof” that the site is temporarily down. (We hope he’s been promoted to guard dog to keep the Missoni maniacs at bay!)

“Target.com was seeing greater item demand today [for the Missoni launch] than on a typical Black Friday,” said Target spokesperson Jessica Deede. “It was an unprecedented success for our designer collections.”

From L.A., we received reports that lines were queuing from 6:30 a.m. and not only were grabbing frenzies ensuing at the store, but the blind rush to grab things then led to bartering at the cash registers, which then led to enterprising sorts asking for extra money on top of their trade.

When we explained to Deede that we were stumped about how to get onto the Web site, she gave us an important tip: Don’t navigate away from the Target.com page and do NOT refresh. We repeat, do NOT navigate away. While it reminds people of this on the site, frantic shoppers may miss this in the throes of shopping desperation.

“We started a key system today to get the site up and running again,” Deede said. “After a few minutes you will be directed to the site when other people leave.”

With a huge push during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, where Target and Missoni hosted a pop-up, there was no doubt that shoppers would be scrambling to get their hands on this coveted collection. Branching out to every lifestyle category (much like Target itself), the line includes apparel for men, women and children, housewares, travel accessories and even a show-stopping patio set.  Like Target collaborations before, shoppers were ravenous but this may be a new record for the Minnesota-based retailer.

On Fashion’s Night Out, New York was treated to an appearance by @MarinaWithStyle, Missoni’s live-tweeting, Tumbling, larger-than-life doll (a chic 25-foot lounging robot with a Missoni dress and blunt bangs), which greeted celebs that attended the preview and shopping event. After her appearance at the launch, she went all over the city to promote the collaboration at Bryant Park, Central Park, Times Square, the Standard Hotel and, of course, the Missoni flagship store on Madison Avenue. With so many appointments, her fashion week schedule was just as hectic as any magazine editor, style blogger or photographer.

Our must haves? The Missoni beach cruiser and patio set, which are the two big-ticket items (naturally), but even the coasters and tumblers are perfect for our kitchen.  We’ve already cleared a spot in our yard for that patio set and have our fingers crossed that Indian summer continues so we can keep living la dolce vita!
