Designer denim has gotten out of hand — what started out as higher-than-average prices has skyrocketed into $300 and even $400 for a pair of jeans if you’re looking for the latest and greatest. Designer Phillip Lim’s got a cheeky release for all those denimheads obsessed with indigo: he’s done an entire collection in denim, bringing new meaning to the term designer denim and giving his loyal fans one more reason to swipe their credit cards this season.
“I have always used denim in the collections—it is really intrinsic to the way we dress. Everyone can relate to denim, so I wanted to refashion it for our lifestyle,” the designer told Style. “I wanted the cut to be considered, the finish and the details to be thought-out, but most important, to make it appropriate. I like the crispness of the raw denim and how in the right use it can almost take on a whole new purpose. There is something incredibly rich and classic about the deep blue hue of raw denim, too—it’s as classic as black or navy.”
Lim’s had denim in his line, but he’s never had an entire collection dedicated to the material. The capsule collection includes a dozen items that all work to makeup a full wardrobe. There are pants and shorts, naturally, but Lim’s also offering chic takes on the denim skirt (there’s not even a hint of ’90s throwback in his sleek, inky pencil), a few coats that are anything but basic jean jackets and even his signature moto jacket done up in denim. Of course, the prices of this capsule collection aren’t on par with Lim’s collection for Target. Tops start at $195 and the collection’s trench rings up at $895, but we didn’t say Lim was revolutionizing designer prices, did we?
