After months of construction, San Francisco will be home to the newest Christian Louboutin store when it opens its doors this week. The shop, which is located on the city’s most famous shopping stretch, Maiden Lane, not only has famous neighbors such as Saint Laurent, Chanel, a gleaming new Valentino and the only Dior Homme location on the West Coast, it’s also the debut of a new retail concept from the Parisian shoe designer.

“I like towns where people take the time to walk in the street, and San Francisco is a beautiful city with beautiful architecture,” designer Christian Louboutin said to WWD. “I was conquered by this location.”

Located at 29 Maiden Lane, the store — Louboutin’s sixth West Coast location if you include two locations in Las Vegas — houses both men’s and women’s collections in a 1,650 square foot space. The designer enlisted 212Box (Louboutin and the firm are longtime collaborators) to design the store, but instead of the Moroccan-tinged shoe galleries that dot the globe, the San Francisco store is the debut of a new design. The store’s façade is dominated by steel, stone and concrete. Inside, the shop is separated into two salons separated by a folding black steel gate reminiscent of the gates at the entrance and exits to Maiden Lane (which happen to be donated to the city of San Francisco by Chanel) and a unique one-way mirror that allows female shoppers to steal glimpses into the men’s salon.

“It is a type of peepshow,” said Louboutin of the store’s unique layout. “Sometimes men make fun of women shopping, so now women can do it, too.”
