Take the great American pastime. Add Americans love of stuff  made right here in the U.S.A. Mix in Coach, an American heritage brand if there ever was one, and you have the perfect Father’s Day’s gift that will be a home run for dads everywhere. Just in time for the Dad’s day, the venerable leather goods brand is creating a limited edition collection of baseball-themed gifts.

The brand was started in 1941 as a small, family-run business that handmade wallets and billfolds in Manhattan. Inspired by the soft pliability of leather baseball gloves, the company began with the ethos of recreating that same broken-in leather feel in bags and more accessories as the label grew. Today, it’s one of the world’s most recognizable brands, and whether you’re walking along the Champs Elysses or in Toyko’s Ginza district, you’ll see ladies toting around Coach’s nearly indestructible bags. But as the label grew, the men’s division was always on the back burner. Until now, that is, with men’s-only stores popping up in New York’s West Village and dedicated shop-in-shops opening in Coach flagships nationwide. Guys are getting in on the brand’s legacy of leather with soft supple totes, briefcases, travel accessories and more.

For Father’s Day, Coach is going back to its roots by offering a special collection of baseball gloves (available in seven different colors) created in collaboration with Massachusetts-based company Valkyrie. The soft leather mitts are game-ready from the get-go, meaning there’s no break in period like the Rawlings models you’ll find on shelves today. Retailing at $348, they might seem too precious to put to use, but as soon as dad slips one on, he’ll be out in the yard in no time at all. To round out the whole Normal Rockwell painting, Coach is also offering baseball bats made in collaboration with Texas-based Warstic Bat Company. The bats are hand-dipped — four colors are on offer — and feature Coach leather wrapped handles and laser-engraved detailing. At $248, they’ll be available at 11 of Coach’s locations nationwide, a much tighter distribution than the gloves, which will be on offer 128 stores worldwide.

And for dads who aren’t quite obsessed with baseball, Coach is taking actual vintage baseball mitts and creating one-of-a-kind wallets for guys who aren’t spending every day on the baseball diamond. Made from actual baseball gloves found on eBay, the heritage baseball glove billfold ($348) was offered last year, but sold out so quickly that the brand brought it back for 2013. Unlaced gloves get disassembled, flattened, cut, shaped and pieced together to form a unique wallet that’s individually stamped. Just 200 of these must-have creations are being made, so don’t hesitate if you’ve got a dad that’s all about American goods and American traditions.

Coach’s Father’s Day collection is available at select stores, including the brand’s Bleecker Street flagship, and www.coach.com.
