Dolce & Gabbana, Prada and Kenzo Dazzle With their Jewelry Collections

Coco Chanel’s oft-quoted advice about accessorizing — to take off the last thing you put on — might be harder to heed this spring, with big name designers adding and expanding their full jewelry lines to their already expansive offerings. From taking house signatures and spinning them into sparklers to collaborating with fashion’s heaviest hitters, designers are all for gilding the lily this spring and encouraging a “more-is-more” aesthetic.

Designing duo Dolce & Gabbana have had one-off pieces of jewelry in their shops for a while now (not to mention a slew of tacky-glam offerings in their D&G line), but they’ve finally expanded their wares to offer a cohesive collection of jewels.

Available exclusively at Dolce & Gabbana boutiques, the line of necklaces, rings and more are festooned with what the duo knows best: Sicilian iconology. The line includes glam rosaries that Madonna — a part time collaborator with the brand — would be proud to wear and charm-heavy earrings and bracelets with black jade roses, lucky charms, keys and other goodies. Made with tri-color gold, genuine rubies and pearls, each piece is meant to be an heirloom, according to the designers. With prices ranging from $975 to $24,500, we certainly hope so!

Another brand bringing their house signatures into jewelry is Prada. With so many iconic materials to work with, it was only natural that Prada would take exotic leathers, studs and other materials and translate them into a line of jewelry. Rocker cuffs and spiked necklaces have already garnered avid editorial attention (watch out, Hermés Collier de Chien!). From the hot rod-inspired spring ’12 line to the uber-tailored fall 2012 collection, the resin roses and rock-inspired heavy metals look great with everything, even if you’re not in head-to-toe Prada.

Available at Prada boutiques across the globe, the pieces start at €350 ($460 at time of publication).

Kenzo Fall 2012

Kenzo Fall 2012

Now that they’ve found their groove at Kenzo, Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim have gotten a little more playful with the looks they’re sending down the runway. Instead of garnering attention by using celeb models like Chloe Sevigny, they’re designing covetable looks at price points that aren’t astronomical. Their most recent showing included resin coated produce. Yes, produce. And while it sounds more kitsch than couture, it was an irreverent, tongue-in-cheek twist to the chandeliers and diamonds that usually walk the Paris runways. A collaboration with Delfina Delettrez Fendi, the resin-dipped orange slices, walnuts and more had a high-shine polish that made them look like semiprecious jewels. How’s that for ready-to-wear you can sink your teeth into?
