Yes, Coachella is supposed to be all about the music. But the fashion is becoming a huge draw in itself, and not just as an opening act for the performances. Every year, festival goers channel everything from Woodstock and the Summer of Love to neons and Native Americans. And fashion brands are eager to tap into the hottest (and one of the most expensive) music festival of the year. Mulberry, the British handbag brand turned go-to label for fashion’s indie girls, made a little music of their own and threw an intimate Fire Pit Party to kick off the weekend’s festivities.

Guests arrived from the festival to the Gene Autry House at the Parker Palm Springs (Our fave place to stay!) via a monster-themed motorcoach, which takes from the collection’s latest inspiration, Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are.

The garden of the house was transformed with fanciful illustrations pulled from the book and hanging monster limbs, spiking the manicured grounds with Mulberry’s signature whimsy. Partygoers sat among gilt balloons on colorful cushions and blankets around a fire pit, which set the stage for the night’s festivities.

Attendees included Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor, model Cara Delevingne, who you’ll recognize from Burberry campaigns and runway shows, Tali Lennox, actress Kate Bosworth (who, with stylist Cher Coulter also designs jewelry for subscription service JewelMint) and chanteuse du jour Azaealia Banks. Lily Collins, who has been upping her fashion clout on the red carpet for international premieres for Mirror Mirror, sported the Mulberry Lily bag with tassels as did Bosworth and Laura Love. The starlets, models and singers also wore other bags and apparel, including a navy mac perfect for the wet weather, straight from Mulberry’s fall 2012 collection as Brit DJ duo the Vaccines helmed the turntables. Kasabian performed for the party, giving the audience a taste of their performance to come on Coachella’s main stage Saturday night. We don’t know about you, but we much prefer this chic camping option over tents any day!
