Outfit Inspiration: Chrissy Teigen’s Lace Top

If there’s a model out there that we love to love, it has to be Chrissy Teigen. Not only has she graced the cover of Sports Illustrated‘s Swimsuit Edition multiple times, Teigen’s also got personality to spare and a slew of new projects that are sure to keep her on our radar and our television screens. Teigen was out to celebrate the release of DuJour magazine, which featured her on the cover, naturally, wearing a chic all-black look that was anything but basic.

And while Teigen is a proclaimed foodie, we think she may have skipped out on the pizza to step out in this chic sheer lace top. The key to a look like this is balance: there’s a lot going on up top, but Teigen keeps is classy (literally) by covering up down below. The balance makes the outfit totally appropriate, lots of fun and something that you can wear even if you’re not a covergirl.

If mere mortals want to wear a sheer lace top, the thing to look for is a lace that has a little more coverage (unless you’re daring to bare, that is). The Diane von Furstenberg Lorelei Two lace top ($298) takes the designer’s beloved Lorelei top and remixes it with a bold lace that’s got plenty of opaque panels to keep things a little more modest.

The extra-long length will keep this blouse tucked into a pencil skirt or a flowing maxi or midi skirt like Teigen’s. We love the idea of wearing it with a visible bra, but if you’re feeling too exposed, a silky cami will do just fine. For the daring, try a great bra, leave those buttons undone and prepare to make a big, bold statement. And don’t think that you can’t wear this great top to work. With a cami, we think it’s a chic take on the classic shirt silhouette. Just pair it with wide-leg trousers for an office look that’s prim and proper.

1. If you’re not a celeb or a supermodel, we recommend a full-length skirt without a slit. The Topshop Pleated Maxi Skirt ($60) is a great, flowy option that’ll give you a long, lean silhouette.

2. If your bra is going to show, make it something worth seeing. The Topshop Padded Balconette Bra ($36) mimics the shape of Teigen’s and the extra straps add a little bit of interest.

3. We dare you to find one outfit that doesn’t work with the Stuart Weitzman Nudist Sandal ($385). We’ve recommended them before, and we’ll keep doing it as long as there are after-dark looks that need a go-to shoe.
