In the vein of Valentino: The Last Emperor, The September Issue and Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel (and not at all like the dramatazations of Lifetime’s House of Versace), Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannini’s starring in a documentary about the creative process. The Director: An Evolution in Three Acts chronicles the 18-month-long creation of Giannini’s Spring 2013 collection for Gucci. Directed by Christina Voros and produced by sometimes Gucci model James Franco, the film is an inside look at the fashion industry and the unique challenges of running a heritage label.

The film screened at the Tribeca Film Festival, but last week, Gucci hosted a screening at the hotel Royal Monceau. Among the guests was one of Gucci’s biggest fans and couture chanteuse Florence Welch, who wore an embellished Gucci along with a sleek black dress. Her signature red hair was pulled back off her face and she looked fresh in the gypsy-inspired boho coat. Just because you don’t have Giannini in your circle of friends doesn’t mean you can’t get the same look — we’ve gathered together our favorite pieces that’ll give you the Gucci look and strike all the right notes.

We might not all have access (or the funds) to get one-of-a-kind Gucci, but we can get the same look with something more accessible. The Novella Royale Short Sleeve Printed Maxi Duster ($172) has a similar bohemian feel as Welch’s Gucci duster, but it’s made from recycled materials sourced from around the world. Each one is unique (and one size fits all) and creates no waste at all in the production process. Scraps are recycled and reused in other garments from the brand. Made in the United States, it’s a great way to get the gypsy Gucci look without having to schedule couture fittings. Wear it during the day over casual weekend outfits or add it to your cocktail dresses for an unexpected and colorful way to cover up after sundown.

Available at Free People.

Florence Welch's Boho Glam

Florence Welch’s Boho Glam

1. Welch’s duster was the center of attention, but one can’t leave the house in a diaphanous coat that doesn’t even close. While it won’t keep you warm, the Diane von Furstenberg Juliet Silk Slip Dress ($158.97) will keep your our duster in good company. It’s mix of lace patterns will add another layer of boho glam to the the pattern-heavy duster without competing for attention — the eye has to travel, after all.

2. Florence’s fingers were each decorated with a different ring. To get the same look, pluck all your favorites from your jewelry box or slip on this set of Smooth Band Rings ($25) from Topshop.

3. While Welch is just an ambassador for Gucci on stage and on the red carpet (she’s not an official face for the label), you can channel the brand’s heritage and high-watt glam with a spritz of Gucci’s newest eau, Première by Gucci.

4. We love mixing the unexpected, so adding something prim and proper such as the Ivanka Trump Carni Pump ($69.96) is an easy way to add an element of surprise.

5. To finish off this high-style, multi-layered look, add the Halston Heritage Rectangular Box Minaudiere ($295). It’s mosaic details and simple shape make it something you’ll reach for when you’re wearing an LBD or anything else.
