Prada Adds Made to Measure Shoe Service

Shoe brands have been letting their best customers design their own shoes for a while now, with both Manolo Blahnik and Stuart Weitzman offering the service at different events and Jimmy Choo even devoting an area of its Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive boutique to its own made to order program. But Prada is taking the idea one step (excuse the pun) further with its custom-made shoe program, which offers over thousands of different combinations of heel heights, materials, soles, finishes and more.

The program, which will be offered in all Prada stores, promises the shoes in about a month’s time after customers choose each detail. Starting at $745, the shoes are perfect for collectors and picky shoppers who can’t find exactly what they want on the market. Combine that with Prada’s reputation for crafting comfortable shoes that are built to last and the brand might just have found the perfect way to get a stronger foothold (there we go again with the puns) in the footwear department.

Prada’s custom-made shoe program spans seven different styles, ranging from a “fashion” pointy toe to a more traditional pointy pump as well as round toe, peep toe, platform and even a sexy pointed toe with a metal heel. Three heights are on offer, including a kitten heel, a mid-heel and a towering 110-mm heel. Budding shoe designers will be able to choose from five different materials (suede, satin, Saffiano leather — Prada’s signature material, leather and patent leather) with different color options for each one. For example, satin has the most to offer with 27 colors and suede has 14 options. Prada’s signature pale blue sole is available, along with a pink and a black. Customers will get the chance to add their initials to the sole and even pick the color of the box that will ship along with the shoes, so that their shoes and closets can be completely coordinated.
